Don't worry if it's a lie, parents told.

Note to boomer parents: It's OK to lie to your children about your youthful drug use, the federal drug czar said Thursday in New Orleans.

"They're your kids, not your confessors," said John Walters, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. "Don't treat them like your peers. Treat them like your children."

Walters is a moron. Bush would be wise to fire him. He makes McCaffery look like an effective genius.

Fortunately idiots like Walters are getting harder to find, at least outside the system of rewards.

At least he's playing to his strong suit. If anybody's an expert on lying about drugs, its Walters.

Well, at least he's admitted that his program is a bunch of crap run by liars. That's progress.

To be consistent, shouldn't he also recommend locked cod-pieces and chastity belts to make sure kids don't experiment with sex? And strict censonship(book burning) to avoid contamination by "unhealthy ideas"?

That is what many of our "allies" on the religious right support.

This Walters guy is a moron. The honesty and truth never hurts as much as a lie when the facts come out. Those that know will always accept the truth but not a lie.

But of the 6 million Americans undergoing drug treatment today, about 60 percent are marijuana-dependent, Walters said.

I wonder how many of these people were faced with the choice between rehab or jail time?

In terms of the addiction it can induce, "marijuana is twice as important as cocaine," he said. "Marijuana is the most dangerous source of dependency."

That man is an idiot!

The Drug Czar has gone on record as saying that marijuana is more dangerous than Heroin, Cocaine, and Methamphetamine. I hope to God the kids don't beleive that lie either. The man obviously has no conscience (probably a pre-requisite for the job).

"....whose deaths were tied to drugs...."

That would be REAL drugs, like heroin and speed.

NOT ONE person has ever been killed by marijuana, but it sounds like they're trying to paint all with the same brush.

Here's some numbers for the teeny-boppers:

“By 1999, more than half of all adolescent marijuana admissions were referred through the criminal justice system. Adolescent marijuana admissions through the criminal justice system increased at a higher rate than admissions through other sources.”

Really, before pissants like Walters run around spreading lies, they should at least check their own websites.

"Don't treat them like your peers. Treat them like your children." Sounds like excellent advice to me. Liberals want us to be pals with our children, making us children and elevating the unready to adult status.

As for the deaths due to grass ... I suspect that more highway deaths can be traced to use of alcohol and/or grass than now reported, due to a lack of testing for grass when victims are trucked away.

Let's not get carried away. You can't make that statement about cotton candy. The drug czar is about as off base as your statement. Today's dope is exponentially stronger than the dope of 1970. Having said that, the WOD is contributing to the undermining of societal foundations at least as much as the drugs themselves.

>>> "No generation knows more about the harm drugs can do than baby boomers," Walters said in an interview. "They know the culture, and the body count."<<<

All the more reason to tell them the freaking truth. Idiot.

I simply meant to point out that you cannot overdose on marijuana, it's just not possible - and kids know that. So to use a PR strategy that ties "drug" use to deaths of hard-core junkies will have no "street cred" with today's hip youth.

Ofcourse you are right. Personally, I don't get the whole marijuana thing. Some readers of your post might take your statement literally.
