Now, why didn't we think of that? Compare and contrast this "what-if" scenario:

Sen. Patty Murray says she intended to be provocative when she told a group of high school students that terrorist leader Osama bin Laden is popular in poor countries because he helped pay for schools, roads and even day care centers.

Senator Lott said he intended to be provocative when he told a group of Thurmond supporters that the country would have been better off if Thurmond won the presidency in 1948.

Murray said in a statement Friday that Vance and other critics were twisting her words. "Having a challenging and thoughtful discussion about America's future reflects the best values of a free democracy; to sensationalize and distort in an attempt to divide is not," she said. Murray's spokesman, Todd Webster, called the senator a victim of a right-wing media machine. "This is being turned into a circus by the right-wing media outlets and fed by right-wing haters," Webster said.

Lott said in a statement Friday that critics were twisting his words. "Having a challenging and thoughtful discussion about America's future reflects the best values of a free democracy; to sensationalize and distort in an attempt to divide is not," he said. Lott's spokesman called the senator a victim of a left-wing media machine. "This is being turned into a circus by the left-wing media outlets and fed by left-wing haters," the spokesman said.

What this moron doesn't know is that the roads built by Osama were used to support terrorist training camps, not to better the lives of the people who were invaded by his gang.

Lefties like Patty can't help but to show their true colors. She's not about progess and freedom, she's about full state contol over the person, whether the state be secular or theocratic. This is why she admires the Osama bin Ladens of the world, and sees them occupying higher moral ground than the US.

"Having a challenging and thoughtful discussion about America's future reflects the best values of a free democracy; to sensationalize and distort in an attempt to divide is not," she said.

Let us give the intellectually-challenged Senator Murray the benefit of the doubt -- that she really intended "a challenging and thoughtful discussion".

Does she not, then, owe us some proof that Osama bin Laden has actually done some good works? I'm simply unaware of any. Perhaps, the Senator could elucidate.

And does she not, at the same time, owe an apology to the American taxpayers who fund the foreign aid that she and the Senate vote on every year. As well as apologies to the foreign aid workers in the Peace Corps and AID, plus the employees of all the American firms who actually build roads, schools and day-care centers in third world countries.

Keep going, Patty-cakes. Give us another "explanation". You're digging your hole ever deeper...

Don't let the Democrats use the excuse that Murray isn't in leadership, so her comments are okay.

I'm sick of hearing the excuse that Lott was "Majority Leader" and therefore deserved to be held to a higher standard. Out of 280 million people in the USA, we send 100 to the Senate. ALL 100 should be held to the same standard, whether Majority Leader or most Junior Senator.

They are all in Leadership of the USA. If we start compartmentalizing the Senate itself, we will eventually define outrageous behaviour down to the minute and second, and then excuse everything.

Ossama paid for schools that practiced Islamofascist religious/ethnic cleansing. Is that what Patty Murray want our government schools to do????

Murray said in a statement Friday that Vance and other critics were twisting her words.

Liberals think they're entitled to a monopoly --of "twisting words" and interpreting remarks.

What I really would like to hear the common-sense-impaired senator explain is: 1) what good did the schools built by OBL do for females, 2) are the roads used by the poor masses who don't have cars, and who needs day care centers in countries who "love" OSL? The women aren't allowed to work and rarely allowed out of the house. So--

Are the day care centers used for the children of the widowers who have stoned their wives to death?

Speak to us, "Provoking Patti."

Most of the folks who live in this State fled the horrors of California.

It is truly puzzeling just why these people would elect two senators who are so obviously anti-military and anti-American and are following in the footsteps of the worst of California's socialists and communist sympathizers.

Good! Just like a true 'fellow traveler', she won't apoligize, she has to 'justify'.

We need to ride this as hard as the left rode Lott. Drive her fat a$$ and her filthy tennis shoes out of the Senate. She's an idiot and has no business being a United States Senator. Get her out of there. It won't matter Washington State will replace her with another 'fellow traveler'.

Murray defends REMARK about BL

Perspective check. It wasn't a singular, isolated remark, it's a tour she's making, many high schools. Agenda, if you will.

I've been crazy about this for 5 days, and this is not going to go away for her. We must hold her feet to the fire.

Taliban chief's surprising opulence

By CNN Chief International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (CNN) --In a stunning setting in the foothills of Kandahar's mountains, Mullah Omar's compound offers a few surprises.

A bizarre sculpture sits in the driveway of the man who ordered the ancient Bamiyan Buddhas destroyed. None of the new occupants quite knows what it is.

"My gut feeling," laughs Abdul Jalil Mujahed, "is that it's for the deer to enjoy when they come down from the hills."

New Afghan interim leader Hamid Kharzai and his loyalists are now living in the Taliban leader's home.

They are wide-eyed as they give CNN a tour of the compound's marble and pastel-painted mosque.

Inside, there are chandeliers hanging from the ceilings, mirrored walls and plush carpets. It's a level of showy opulence no one here imagined, from a man promoted as a humble cleric living in a simple mud-brick hut.

The large compound is luxurious by Afghan standards. It has been heavily bombed by the United States, but a survey from the roof shows that the mosque and Mullah Omar's bedrooms were unscathed

Anti-Taliban soldiers now pose for pictures with their weapons on Mullah Omar's double bed. Outside, walking through the rubble of the quarters for guests and cattle, it's apparent that every room had air conditioning -- including the cowsheds. Electric ceiling fans cooled the animals. And to drink, there's running water from taps.

Only 12 percent of all the people in Afghanistan have access to clean water.

"They built this all for the cows, while our people never had these things," says Saylab. "This was built with Osama's money ... with the blood of the Afghan people."

While most people make do with outhouses and holes in the ground, Mullah Omar had tiled bathrooms with shower fixtures and flushing toilets.

He is thought to have fled the comfort of his muraled walls shortly after the air war began. U.S. Special Forces are believed to have raided it for evidence early on.

The evidence found here suggests a leader who, in the name of God, demanded so much sacrifice from his people, but suffered none himself.

Is there any record of bin Laden ever supporting segregation? If there is,we can safely assume the Dims will be baying at the moon until she resigns, right? Granted,he is responsible for thousand of American deaths, but that's a minor thing compared to segregation. (sarcasm)
