Where to begin with this story. The positive consequences of Welfare Reform notwithstanding I couldn't help but notice a few things about this story:

A) This woman by my count had children from 3 different men

B) Nowhere in the story does it mention how much money she is receiving from any of these men.

C)The story doesn't reveal how much in food stamps she receives.

D) On the positive side, at least at the end of the article she recognizes that getting off of welfare is going to be good for her in the long run.

Haven't we heartless Conservatives been saying that for a long time?

Holguin said she's never been embarrassed and has no regrets about receiving welfare.

That's got to be part of the problem...

I count six kids of a variety of shades and colors. Who the hell are the fathers? What have we been subsidizing in all this? What are the kids going to be?

For Holguin and the thousands like her making the final step in the journey from welfare to work, the Jan. 1 time-limit deadline will mean a loss of $130 a month per adult, with benefits continuing for their children -- about $520 a month for two.

when do the benefits for the kids stop ?

I hope the state phases out the money, a little at a time, over the 5 years, rather than yanking it all at once.

Good story/results...not perfect, but a good start !

Well the girls will be with kid, asap, and the boys will be gang bangers. No one ever taught this brood dog to keep her bloomers on.

I have to wonder --

Does that mean that she has one kid that was fathered by her brother?

They all appear to be suffering from malnutrition. I've never seen such evidence of hunger in America.

A) Nice. Not only that, but, her last name is completely different from any of the children.< /sarcasm >

B) Correct.

C) She probably will receive them even after getting her job. They do in Michigan.

D) If she has any more kids, she'll quit her job and be back on welfare.

In Michigan, you are "entitled" to a free vehicle worth up to $1200.00 The state pays for any repairs needed on the vehicle to get back and forth to "work." Or, they will pick you up and drop you off via taxicab, to get to your job. I believe you only have to work 20 hours a week. It could have been upped to 30 hours. (not sure) Free health care, a free education and free childcare, too, along with foodstamps.

It's probably a given that the fathers of these kids have never paid a dime in child support.

Just a sidenote, but certain restaurants here, including McDonalds, take foodstamps. Not that it matters, but I thought that eating out was a privilege, not a right?

She is doing quite well on $1,500 a month despite the other goodies. I think she has left out a few sources of income.

She lives in a home.

I WORK and live in a dingy apartment!

Don't even get me started on this welfare cheater!

BTW, most of her boys will end up in jail, for the person that wanted to know what will happen to her kids. And the girls will get pregnant as teens.
