Today Cuba is the world's fourth-largest sugar exporter, behind Brazil, the European Union, and Thailand. But the era of sugar as Cuba's dominant product seems gone for good.
Cuba has become a museum of antiquities. It's main products have remained unchanged since the 1950s, while in other parts of the world, entire industries have been created, gone to maturity and disappeared within the same time. Led by men who came to power during the Eisenhower administration, Cuba is maintained as a Marxist ethnographic reservation by the Liberals of the First World, who deprived of God, require the existence of a Socialist Paradise to sleep well at night.
Tourism has replaced sugar as the main source of foreign cash, and foreign hoteliers are being courted to further develop that sector.
Tourism was always important to Cuba. In the 1960s, it hosted the Venceremos tours, during which starry-eyed North American leftists could come to work on a collective farm to catch a glimpse of the "future". But today, the "future" works better as "past", and the same North Americans, now tenured professors at Berkeley and government ministers in Canada, can stroll the dream world of their youth; see the "happy" faces; and visit their Communist Disneyland, now also the brothel and pedophile destination of the Caribbean.
There can be fewer fates more cruel than for an old Cuban revolutionary to have to perform some "native dance" at a tourist show for moronic liberal gringos.
Tramuta in lazzi lo spasmo ed il pianto;
In una smorfia il singhiozzo e'l dolor... Ah!
Ridi Pagliacco, sul tuo amore infranto!
Ridi del duol che t'avvelena il cor!
