December 27, 2002 -- JERUSALEM - Scud missiles seized two weeks ago in the Arabian Sea were destined for Iraq, not Yemen, it was reported yesterday.

The missiles were captured aboard a North Korean ship but were allowed to proceed by U.S. authorities, who said an investigation showed the cargo was being legally sent to Yemen.

One could build the best possible defenses against intercontinental ballistic missiles and miss that possibility. I think as long as there are countries out there -- and there are -- who are as clearly determined as they are and they evidence it among other things, I mentioned the amount of resources they devote to being able to attack us. If the missiles are moved from Yemen to Iraq they will either have to go through the Gulf or overland across Saudi Arabia. Either way provides another opportunity for us to have another look. It wouldn't surprise me if small transponders weren't placed on some of them to keep track of them

Transponder gps units and also the company of a Predator drone.I am sure we just did not let those missles go and wash our hands of them.I suspect we suspect they were up to something and are just letting things take thier course. If the missles are destroyed enroute to somewhere else we will probably never hear about it, but they also wont be used for and shenanagians either.

This was all obvious at the time. We should have sent that ship to the bottom.

Hey, even the French mustered the guts to scuttle the Rainbow Warrior...

Iraq does not have any nukes yet so we will threaten to attack it, pressure it with war talk, humiliate its leadership and attack it at will.

North Korea has nukes and WMD and therefore we we will NEVER threaten to attack it, NEVER pressure it with war talk, NEVER humiliate its leadership and WILL NOT attack it at will. We will even allow North Korea to finish deliveries on scud missiles we seize on the high seas to Yemen.

This sends a very clear message heard round the world; If you do not have nukes and WMD the USA will treat you like Yugoslavia and Iraq if you develop nukes and WMD (and the ability to deliver them) in time you will be treated with distance and respect like we treat Pakistan, and North Korea.

That is why I know Iraq does not have online nukes (chemical and bio weapons are 19th century technology so it is very possible the Iraqis can make and use them with little difficulty) at the moment because we are bullying Iraq around at will UNLIKE how we are treating North Korea.

Thanks for the ping, Dennis. Now the question is, why would Yemeni officials get so pissed off about our boarding of the No. Korean vessel if they knew the shipment wasn't for them? The answer, of course, is that they have absolutely no intention of helping us fight the War on Terror, and have every intention of aiding and abetting our enemies; which, like Syria, makes them our enemy. Our turning a blind eye to terrorists and terrorist sympathizers the world over - Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Pakistan, Syria, etc. - because of our sincere hope that they'll help us in our war effort is naive beyond description. These nations desire our (and Israel's) complete destruction, and it's amazing how that hasn't sunk it yet.

Well, this story confirms my Iraq-Syria suspicions to the tee. Saddam and Assad Jr. plan on using Hezbollah to do their dirtywork for them in the upcoming war. Yeah, Saddam is dust, and he knows nothing can save him. But at least he knows that Scuds (most likely with WMD aboard) launched close to the Israeli border in Lebanon have a very good shot at hitting their targets, and hero status in the Arab world is assured if they do. Successful hits in Israeli population centers could also inspire street revolts throughout the Arab world, and set off a war involving the whole region.

Stupid Assad Jr. probably thinks (or is at least hoping beyond hope) that Israel wouldn't respond directly against Syria if the Scuds are fired by Hezbollah in So. Lebanon, but he is badly mistaken.

While it may be the case that we are being more careful with North Korea than Iraq because of nukes, I think it is more likely that we are being nice to North Korea because they (A) are allied with China, (B) share a border with China, and (C) were aided, militarily, by the Chinese during the Korean war, a situation the US would rather not repeat. The key to North Korea will be to get China on board.

My statement stands: This sends a very clear message heard round the world; If you do not have nukes and WMD the USA will treat you like Yugoslavia and Iraq if you develop nukes and WMD (and the ability to deliver them) in time you will be treated with distance and respect like we treat Pakistan, and North Korea.

Your argument is flawed.

We were much more polite to them before they had nukes. Gave them oil and aid. Now they don't get oil, they don't get aid and I would not bet on them being around long unless they tone it down.

North Korea has a knife at South Korea's throat and has had for a very long time. They just have a bigger one now. The time is coming when that knife will have to be removed for our safety, the safety of South Korea and as an object lesson. No more blackmail allowed.

I am right on the money. We gave them aid and oil because of the fear of their nukes.

They didn't have nukes at the time.

Now they have nukes and the aid is cut off. Your argument conflicts with reality.
