Enron-style accounting at the U.N. Oil-for-Food Program.

Who is Saddam Hussein's biggest business partner?

The United Nations. The same U.N. whose secretary-general, Kofi Annan, stands as one of the chief ditherers over removing Saddam. Here are the ingredients of a conflict of interest.

Despite all the phoney bleeding heart articles about how the US isn't allowing food and medicine in, Iraq has billions sloshing around in these UN escrow accounts that it hasn't even spent.

The UN is getting $$$ out of it.

Saddam Hussein is getting $$$ out of it.

Certain fortunate oil companies are getting $$$ out of it because they get to buy the oil below market and sell it at market. Might be even you're filling up your car with gasoline born in Iraq.

Go figure.

There was a companion article to this if I remember correctly that profiled a shipbuilding outfit in Iraq that received a lot of cash from this $$$ program. They build ocean style trawlers and it's a booming concern.

A trawler with a cargo hold with WMD is a very effective delivery method. They could be dispatched to any port in America & Europe. With the Coast Guard concentrating on the illicit drug trade, a dirty trawler could easily get through. Chilling thought.

I must have missed their earlier column on this. This is a real eye-opener. It's "follow the money" all right.

Finally!! I saw an obscure reference to this in another article (it was not the main point of the article but just an aside). I repeated it in multiple threads with the simple question: Why aren't Freepers screaming about this? I already understood why most of the UN loving press wasn't, but sheesh. The whole thought to me was disgusting. Glad to see it getting the light of day! Thanks for posting.

As I was reading this, I was saying to myself: "The U.N. has long outlived its usefulness".

But then I was unable to recall any time at which it actually was useful.

If I were on a quiz show and they asked me what the U.N. had ever accomplished, I don't think I could come up with anything for an answer.

The U.N. has always been 'smoke & mirrors' hype by people who thought that just 'meaning well' was enough.

When I was in elementary school in the 50's we were taught to believe that the U.N. was the answer to everything. Seemed like a story about it was in our "Weekly Reader" at least twice a month.

The United Nations is like a hot air balloon and there is a huge surplus of hot air right now.

While this information is useful in understanding the nature of the relationship between Iraq and the U.N., it doesn't offer any supportive reasoning why the United States, under the guise of being the U.N.'s police force, is hell-bent on invading and conquering Iraq.

Americans must, if we are to come out on top of this global chess match, learn to not only consider the present-day circumstances, but also delve into the historical events that have led to the current situation.

In addition, we MUST learn to project future outcomes with truthful information.

As it stands, Iraq has NEVER been an enemy to the United States. In fact, history shows just the opposite.

Furthermore, an attack on Iraq would mean taking over the entire country for an indefinite period of time. This is normally what other countries around the world fear as Imperialism. The English are notorious for this throughout the Middle East and Africa. And if I recall correctly, even the United States had to fight for our independence ffrom not-so-Great Britain.
