Haven't seen TTT yet. The trailers make it seem like three hours of dark and violent battles, which is what I didn't like about LOTR.Say, while you're avoiding TTT, which you've so expertly summed up, I thought I might warn you away from other movies that would also be wastes of your time:
- Ben Hur hours of chariot races; who needs it?
- The Quiet Man hours of people talking in some foreign accent; who needs it?
- Any Move About Jesus or Biblical Themes hours of outdoor shots, not one car or TV in sight; who needs it?
- Saving Private Ryan hours of bright and bloody battles; who needs it?
- Sophie's Choice hours of some gal with an accent; who needs it?
- Schindler's List hours of mostly black and white shots of people who aren't even American; who needs it?
- Gone with the Wind hours of medium-bright and bloody Civil War battles; who needs it?
Think of all the time I've saved you!

Dan, she didn't like the battling part of FOTR, and TTT seems like more of that so she thinks she might not like it. Not everyone does like epic-war movies, especially women.
Patriciaruth, Half of the movie storyline is war epic, but half of it is continuing Frodo's journey, so if you liked that part of the story, you may enjoy the movie in part anyway. Even the battle sequences have a lot of human element in them. Give it a shot.

Dear Dan,
I wish you'd been around to advise me before I saw all those films. I'm sure you would have been more graphic if FR didn't have rules. Giggle.
TTT-I'm sure there must be a pony in here somewhere. Hey, lighten up you all. I just said the trailers (the ads) made it seem dark. With soldiers being shot and killed for real and war looming with Iraq, I'm not in the mood for dark right now.
And thinking that maybe the soldiers aren't either, I sent more comedies than action to them for Christmas:
