We've disagreed about certain things Sungirl, but I suspect that we both pity those poor wretches who, when asked who they are, tell you where they work.

Very nice and very appropriate. I learned the hard way about facing your mortality - my father died when I was 7 and my mother died when I was 21. This year, I am the age my mom was when she passed and it has been foremost in my mind. I made a lot decisions in my life differently based on the fact that I was acutely aware that it's all over before you know it and you don't get a second chance to do things differently.
Happy New Year!

Happy New year Sungirl-
I usually skip these type of touchy-feely posts and e-mails, but this one is good. Thanks for the reality check.

On the topic of life is too short: if you turn off the TV today and leave it off, you will stop missing it by March or April, stop thinking about it by July and be glad you did it by next December.

Nice story! I am about to turn fifty-five, and I started losing my marbles years ago.

When my father turned 85, I told him he'd recently passed 30,000 days on Earth (30,000 days is 82.14 years).
"Is that right?"
"Yup. But almost nobody makes it to 40,000."
"Why is that?"
"Because 40,000 days is 109 and a quarter years."
He died at 89.

"I made a lot decisions in my life differently based on the fact that I was acutely aware that it's all over before you know it and you don't get a second chance to do things differently. " Beautifully said, you learned an important life lesson tragically - most of us slowly come to realize this after we loved and lost family, friends - but later in life than you did.
When my husband was 25 he lost his father suddenly, and I always was happy I didn't complain when he wanted to stop by and 'see him' the night beforen he died...which turned out to be the last time he'd ever see him alive. They had a nice visit, and his dad said some nice things to him, as he alwayd did, but they took on extra meaning when he was gone the very next morning.
Thats a lesson I learned early in life, and I have always tried to find the patience and time to make that 'visit', phone call or extra effort etc...because you do never know what the next day will bring.
SG: This email was very nice to read on New Years Eve, thanks for posting it!

I do not agree with many things you post but this one is a keeper. I haven't worked much in the last eighteen months and I have noticed many things that I was too busy to notice before. It has been a fruitful period of learning for me. I am now preparing to re-engage in the rat race and I hope that some of my lessons learned will be useful in my third incarnation. Thanks for the post.

Happy New Year Sungirl!

When we really look closely at our time on earth, we discover that we really have little precious time.
Add the time you spend sleeping, the time spent at work, and the time you spend shopping and running around from here to there, and the time you spend cleaning and grooming your home, your car, and yourself, and the time you spend paying the bills, and on the telephone, and ON THE COMPUTER?
Add all this time up and subtract it from 24 and you begin to see just how precious little time we really do have. - What do you do with this precious time?

Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.

Morning Sun Girl--and the rest of you freepers out there....
I have been doing this "marble bit" now for several years...
Except I have a twist to it....I only have five marbles left in the jar..... Then for each week I live past Jan. 26, I will add a marble back into the jar....Remember the old movie "magnificient Obsession" You used it all up? I am replacing what I used up In June I am getting remarried to a lovely lady..... she has used her's up, but is adding more to the jar each week... I started this when I met her two years ago.... I like old Sandburg but like most poets he lived in another world. When you're raising four kids and an ex-wife your choices are sometimes limited. I am getting to a better appreciation of what is important and what is not. The only problem is that by the time that I get it right I will die of something and it won't have mattered. C'est la mort.
