If someday our current president is free to say that this "religion of peace" nonsense was promoted because it was necessary to establishing forward deployed launch platforms in otherwise hostile Arab states, then I'll be content.I agree - it would be incredibly stupid and harmful to our goals to alienate the whole rest of the world by declaring the truth about Islam. Prsident Bush's statements are merely a means to an end and they also serve to keep nutcases from going out and killing peaceful innocents that practice more benign forms of Islam.

Agreed, the president would be as phenominally stupid as he's accused of being by both the far-left and the rabid right if he were to literally condemn all of Islam to the world public.
Since there is nothing stupid about GW...I'm with you in believing the president is simply using diplomacy as one of the many weapons he has in his arsonel.
Even most of the Arab world believes that our president is only paying lip service to their Religion of Piece ® propaganda because his ACTIONS show he's not buying it at all...so why is it so many Americans take his words so literally?

The only more benign form of Islam that I know of could be politely termed as 'rug merchants'. I agree that the pres has one of those jobs that if he accidently comes out and says "off with their heads!" heads are likely to roll. OTOH, if they manage to take out a few more thousand of us heads may be about to roll anyway.
