QUESTION 79: My school hands out condoms. If kids are going to have sex, isn't it important for them to practice safe sex?
Handing out condoms in school—especially without any counseling and without parents' consent—gives students no inducement to do any serious thinking about sexual activity and its risks.
Much sex education today is aimed at making sexual activity a common experience devoid of deep meaning. Sex educators are worried that teens tend to treat sex as passionate, romantic, meaningful—that they get swept away by their feelings. These educators believe that teens are more likely to use birth control and condoms if sex is treated clinically, stripping it of its meaning.
Sex without significance. No commitment, no emotional involvement, simple animal pleasure.
Kinda reminds me of the time our school brought all the parents in to see the new sex education curriculum....To "facilitate" the expierience and to drive home the point of "safe sex"...the instructor (here after known as the "facilitator")..handed out placards with 10 different sceniarios on them ranging from....unprotected sex to harmless fun! (her highly educated and trained opinion)....the 10 were told to line up in order of riskiest to safest...An older former school board member was given the placard of: "Showering naked with your girlfriend"...to which he immediatly went to the #1 spot of riskiest!...The "facilitator" in good natured and confident humor, explained to him that he should be much father down the list, as that was pretty safe and harmless.. to which he replied.....I might be old... but I was young once...and I can guareentee you, that any normal boy lucky enough to find himself in that situation, will, within 10 minutes, find himself engaged in unprotected sex! ...I suggest you go back and take a course in human nature and common sense before you ever come back here with such garbage....At this point, the previously confident and aloof "facilitator" became beet red and hung her head!... The parents stood up and placed their bananna and condom (that they were given and had willingly excepted upon arrival and was to be used in the hands on demonstration of the proper way to put on a condom) on the "facilitators" desk and walked out!
