Three Ithacans Arrested at the White House
Tompkins County Green Party ^ | Sunday, December 29 2002 | Linda Holzbaur

Posted on 01/01/2003 5:33:21 PM PST by Behind Liberal Lines

Lisa Guido, Peter DeMott and Grace Ritter of Ithaca and 13 others were arrested on December 28, 1:30 pm at the White House in Washington DC for participating in a nonviolent, peaceful die-in to protest the ongoing war against Iraq and the invasion of Iraq, now well underway. Some of the participants poured their own blood on themselves during the protest.

DeMott and Ritter were charged with participating in a stationary demonstration in a restricted area and released with an order to appear in DC court on April 16; Guido is still being held. All three were part of the group who were arrested at the Ithaca Army Recruitment Center on December 21st for participating in a similar die-in there.

DeMott and Ritter were interviewed by Pacifica Peacewatch this morning about the anti-war effort in Ithaca; the show will be aired sometime this week. Contact WEOS Geneva for the times of broadcast.

Peter DeMott's statement:

As a Marine Corps veteran of the war in Viet Nam, I know firsthand that war is organized mass murder. Violence begets more violence. We need to solve international disputes peacefully and through negotiation.

DeMott and Ritter are available for statements at 607/227-4189.

As an aspiring Christian I refuse to stop protesting at the Pentagon because Jesus tells us to love one another, to love our enemies

What is an "aspiring Christian" or a "would-be Christian"?

Is it similar to "aspiring pregnant" or "would-be pregnant" or "almost pregnant"?

Christians have the right to be conscientious objector to war. On the other hand, Christians usually do not impose their conscientious decisions on other Christians.

As St. Paul said, some Christians find no objection to eat meat sacrificed to idols, other Christians do not eat meat.

On conscientious issues, Christians do not judge each other.

He looks like a retired Gestapo chief confronting Mike Wallace on an Argentine horse farm. "Christian" huh? Why don't we hear more about the religious left? The media cheer when Quakers, Mennonites, and renegade Catholics are arrested at pro-dictator/terrorist guerrila theater events, then scream bloody murder about the evils of the religious right when a few fundies try to dissuade abortion clients.

DeMott is a professional anti-war protestor. He was jailed for a year in 1980 for stealing a truck and using it to ram a warship which was about to be inaugurated. Find an anti-American crowd and he'll be there.

I'm gonna throw out a wild guess here that this guy was drafted and didn't volunteer for military service. Another reason why we don't need to bring back the draft.

He did damage to a Trident and only got one year in jail. That is outrageous. He should have been sentenced to 10 years.

Why don't these people do a real "die in"? I'm sure that they can find a lot of Kool Aid suppliers.

I know, bring back the good old days when a real protester would pour gasoline on themselves and then set themselves on fire. Hey, This war is suppose to be about oil isn't it?

Do any of these people have jobs?

More often than not, they are sucking at the teat of higher education through Cornell U or Ithaca College

Ithaca has an Army recruiter's office? And they haven't hounded them out of town?

Funny you should ask. The "Ithaca" recruiter's office is technically in the neighboring town of Lansing.

Do you live in Ithica? If you do live there may I ask why? You seem to have nothing but bad things to say about the town.

Think of it as a collection of cautionary tales.

If you want to know what America would be like if the liberals actually "win," look at Ithaca and despair.

Someone on the inside has to warn the rest of you. ;-)

"Violence begets more violence."

Ithica Idiot.

It's the lack of an overwhelming response to violence that begets more violence.

For instance, it was Klintoon's complete lack of response in January 1993 to kill Osama after the WTC bombing that lead directly to Khobar towers, American Embassy bombings, USS Cole and Twin Towers and Pentagon.
