The one I can't figure out is how the Browns got in over the Dolphins, Patriots and Broncos. Does anyone know which tie-breaker got them in?

We always get Cincy twice. And those are both home games as the Browns fans fill up the Cincy stadium. The Ravens should be tougher next year. Good news playing the Pats the first NEW Browns game I went to was a victory over Belichek's team.....one of our 3 wins that year.

You got that right. It would never be as sweet as it will be to dump Vick on his bottom, then go down to Tampon Bay and beat the Bucs on their home field. Meantime, Philly will lose, and the NFC title game will return to Lambeau Field.

The big man upstairs (Saint Vincent) has drawn it up this way, and I'm not one to doubt him.

The Browns were 7-4 vs AFC opponents. Giving them the best AFC record of, 9-7 second place in their division teams. Hope that helps

While I'am a Colts fan, I will concede their ultimate defeat this Saturday to the Jets. The Colts don't even start playing until after halftime. Look for the Jets to be leading 42-0 at halftime. My team SUCKS! They do not deserve to be in the playoffs!

That game would be relevant (and a win) if (1) we didn't have to worry about keeping our starters healthy (Garcia, Owens); (2) Mariucci had a single ounce of killer instinct instead of taking a field goal shorter than an extra point and sitting on a 17-3 lead.

I'm sure there are more reasons that I am just forgetting.

Niners won't get past the Giants.

Raiders will take the Super Bowl.

They've been in every game they played this year except at Tampa. Beating the Saints, Falcons, and Jets. Losing only by 3 twice against the Steelers. The Browns are good young team. Probably too young to go far in the playoffs, then again this is the NFL.
They've beaten or outplayed every AFC playoff team except Oakland this year. They took the Steelers to the wire twice (once into OT) before William Green woke up. Don't count them out.

Actually, both Miami, and Cleveland went 7-5 inside the AFC, So it must be somewhere in here...

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM

If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.
1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.
Two Clubs
1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
4. Strength of victory.
5. Strength of schedule.
6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
7. Best combined ranking among all teams in point s scored and points allowed.
8. Best net points in conference games.
9. Best net points in all games.
10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
11. Coin toss.
Three or More Clubs
(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)
1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in conference games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
12. Coin toss

Aha, Miami Gets eliminated in step1, of Between three or more clubs, Because NE Finished Ahead inside the Division.

And NE loses to Cle because NE had a Worse conference record.

You got me. I think the NFL makes the wild card as difficult as possible to understand. But it does make it an exciting last week of football since you are paying attention to outcomes of so many games.

The Falcons are ranked higher than the Giants because in week 5, they beat the Giants 17-10 at New York.

My guess is that Cleveland had a better divisional record than Miami. The Browns were 3-3 and the Dolphins were 2-4.

Thanks for that. I love this kind of football minutia. Of all the football fans in my circle of friends and family, I'm the only one who knows how to calculate a QB rating (or cares probably).

I wasn't taking shots at any team.
That is the way I see it, right, wrong or indifferent.
At least you made the playoffs this year, we've sucked for the last 6 years. But I see a brighter future now.
Go Cowboys.
