As a long time and loyal Orange County Republican, I hope he is a more effective candidate, than Mr. Simon.
On 12/29/2002 I received a Christmas message, from Mr. & Mrs. Simon. That is kind of like his campaign--late and slow.

That is what I thought he said.

she'll knock him out like she knocked out bruce herschenson and darryl issa. remember?
bruce had a lead over boxer because he was on the tv news all the time; everyone knew who he was. almost noone knew who the congresswoman from up north was.
then, ka-boom! the weekend before the election boxer let drop the bomb that bruce had looked at some porno on a public outing. her people had been following him and videotaped him picking up a sex magazine.
bruce didn't know what hit him.
same thing happened to issa, only he didn't even get to the 1998 election. during the republican primary, out of the blue came a los angeles times front page article in may of 1998 that issa had killed his former business partner back in indiana. bye, bye issa! (issa's now a california congressman.)
so, unless campbell has a lot of "moxey" to use a left-wing media term, don't expect him to win.

If he doesn't have $50M burning a hole in his wallet, his candidacy isn't worth a hell of a lot.

My guess is he will attract more early 'mother's milk'.
I can't wait to send a check!

Even though it's ancient, posting this 1992 LA Times text in its entirety may violate FRs settlement with the LAT and WP, especially with the express restriction at the end of the article.

Oh please don't be so critical. Okay, so the guy wasn't politically savvy, and trusted a group of retired police officers to tell the truth, but they are both wonderful people--CA doesn't deserve that root core of a nice guy, anyway--we're not ready or worthy, yet. I know them both, and in general, people are just WAY to critical, and for the most part, pass judgment by only listening to sound bites. He spent
11 million dollars of his own money to try to get us out from under the $$$/tax claws of Gray Davis, I don't know many CA citizens who love CA
that much! P.S. Plus, I remember when everyone called George stupid. --not comparing the two by any means, but just making a point--

The great thing about him being a Republican is that we don't have to run a whole bunch of self-funded candidates -- if he's the nominee he'll get massive tandem help from Dubya and big-time fundraising $$, since we'll be on the offensive this cycle with only 2 endangered senate seats.

I moved to get away from Patty Murray. There might be a constitutional protection concept to justify a deduction on your Income Tax!

Campbell is also a Certified Public Accountant who, prior to his automotive career, was a tax accountant with Ernest & Young in Los Angeles. I'm glad to see he changed his evil ways.
Homer J. Simpson, CPA (in private industry.)
