A LOOK AT THE ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES AND "GLOBAL WARMING"

Written April 9, 2002 By Joe D'Aleo Chief WSI/INTELLICAST Meteorologist

In the story "Is This Warm Winter a Sure Sign of Global Warming?" we looked at a number of factors that cause changes in global mean temperatures on both the short and long term. We showed that although most of the attention in recent years has been on the greenhouse gases as the primary driver of the global temperature trends, it may still be a relative "bit player" in the climate ride we, like it or not, all find ourselves on.

When I give a talk or write on the subject of climate change, I frequently get the response "How do you explain the environmental impacts that are reported by the IPCC and other scientists that show the global ice is disappearing from the Polar Regions and from the world's mountains. Isn't that proof of accelerated global warming?"

Before I respond to this, let me say that I have always considered myself a friend of the environment. Many years ago when working on a grant to study "air quality," I did a radio show on Science and the Environment. When I was a Professor of Meteorology, I taught about the greenhouse effect among the factors affecting climate in my Weather and Climate courses. It was only when researching the current status of greenhouse warming and climate change for Intellicast.com that I began to find inconsistencies in what the data said, and what was being presented to us by the global warming activists.

My interest is finding the truth and presenting the facts, not in promoting controversy. Like everyone else, I get a delivery of oil every month and I can assure you I get no special discounts.

I do not advocate a careless disregard for the environment in our policy or actions. I welcome reasonable steps to clean up our world in order to make it a better place for our children and their children.

Here are some of the environmental changes "in the news" and some of the likely causes.

This is an older article by Meteorologist Joe D'Aleo, but it right in line with Joe Bastardi and other meteorologists/climatologists in explaining any warming of temperatures or melting of ice as correlated to things other than SUV's.

Excellent article!!!

He explains the tie-ins to solar activity, the Pacific oscillation and other factors, along with the temperature data.

The most telling point is that just when the warming hoax started heating up around 1990, the number of ground stations was significantly reduced! Convenient, eh?

But, but, what is one to do? We are still about 2-3 degrees below the temperature of the Global Thermal Maximum, which occurred during the years around 900 to 1250 AD during which time global temperatures were 2-3 degrees F. higher than today.

That was back when ice in the North Atlantic and Artic had melted enough to allow ships from Scandinavia to navigate the waters west of Iceland and to permit settlements in Greenland and Vineland, and the weather was warm enough to grow grapes there.

If only Bush had signed the Kyoto Treaty, we wouldn't have all these problems today.

At least that is what the Euro Weenies are charging. The piece of paper signed by the UN IPCC extortionists has about as much validity as the treaty Bill Clinton signed with North Korea back in 1994 where they promised not to pursue the development of nuclear weapons.

Most of the time when they report our record high temperatures they say the highest on record in their title - then when you read the article they say the highest temps since 1949 and 1999. There was also the dust bowl. Our highest temps here were in 1948. My question is WHAT CAUSED THE RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES IN 1949?!?!?!?!? I don't believe in human caused globull warming!

And before that the same "scientists" claimed we were having global cooling....

It isn't any warmer here this winter than in past winters. I think we have climate, and weather patterns. Some summers are hot, some mild. Some wet, some dry. Some winters we get snow, some winters are beautitul sunny warm dry. I think it is all just natural weather cycles, plus El Nino, and Solar Flares. I think the sun causes a lot of global warming...duh...duh to the junk scientists who believe in man made globull warming.

You're right on the money. Anything I've read by real scientists (as opposed to social scientists) says that. Climactic temperature changes are correlated with sunspots and variations in the suns intensity. They also say looking at a mere 50-100 years of data cannot possibly identify climactic change, only annual variations.
