When his father started the original AW import ban then told the NRA to drop dead he pretty much sealed his fate.

Much as I may disapprove of Clinton's decision to sign the 1994 Personal Safety and Sporting Firearms Use Protection Act, he at least went through the trouble of going through Congress. Bush, by contrast, imposed his restrictions on imported nasty guns, including domestic manufacture of nasty guns from imported parts, all by executive fiat.

Let's hope the son has learned the right lessons from that [i.e. that it's dangerous, not that it's doable].

I doubt it. I found this press release on the whitehouse.gov site.

"In addition to strict enforcement of existing gun laws, the President supports expanding instant background checks to close the gun show loophole and banning the importation of high-capacity ammunition clips."

They could at least get their terminology right: it's magazines not clips.
