Look at every nation that has rejected Christ, and its obvious what has made America great, our embracing the gospel of Christ's salvation. Of course the left and the media are always trying to ignore this, hoping we will reject Him, so we can join a world in misery, poverty, oppression, and tyranny, just where Satan would love to see us. Ain't gunna happen, because Christ will rebuke the devourer for our sake.

Sowell is quite likely one of the foremost American thinkers and writers of the present time.
Many writers would use far more words, to say what he does in this brief, insightful essay.
To: Russell Scott
It has a lot more to do with a democracy, then it does religion. It has a lot to do with freedom OF religion, then it does with one particular one. It has a lot to do with a free enterprise and capitalist society then it does with one religion.
Sorry to bust your bubble.

The belief in Christ and his teachings, if not *yet* rejected by our society, has less influence than at any time in our history and that lack of influence, if not corrected very soon, will ultimately result in our downfall. We have achieved greatness because God has been with us. We cannot continue to be the greatest nation on earth without Him. It seems that only a disaster of biblical proportions wil awaken us as a nation.

People less consumed by their own sense of wonderful specialness might even try to learn from their many failures. What a wonderful sentence! It sums up so much of the liberal mindset in one complete thought.

At one point, President Reagan told Chairman Gorbachev that what the Soviet Union was proposing was just not serious and he got up from the table and walked out.Enabling, pandering or talking to the leftist/socialists in this country is useless because...
People less consumed by their own sense of wonderful specialness might even try to learn from their many failures. But that is not the political left today or at any time in the past.
Witness Trent Lott's results, Patty Murray's comments, Ellen Ratner's off-the- cuff remark, Hillary CLINTON, the mainstream propaganda machine, etc., etc.
Great article, thanks for the post.

"People less consumed by their own sense of wonderful specialness"What an excellent description of "Liberals" with their oh-so-good intentions and oh-so-limited horizons, busy paving The Road to you-know-where and determined to drag the intellectually and morally superior rest of us down that Road along with them!

My paraphrase (post #9) supports your contention.

Islam may be just such a disaster.

Look at every nation that has rejected Christ, and its obvious what has made America great, our embracing the gospel of Christ's salvation.Or maybe what made America great was our embracing personal freedom and liberty while rejecting government sponsored religion.
Or do you live in a some kind of fantasy world where Jews don't exist?

It seems that only a disaster of biblical proportions wil awaken us as a nation.Wrong. Stements like that make the fundementalists look like the DemocRATs. Both want a disaster so they can say "See, we told you so".

i wish that you were wrong...but i don't believe that you are

But if it awakens us as a nation, we will prevail... That is, if we awaken before it's too late.
