Collins will support it, and Snowe probably will, too. Don't count on McCain or Chafee. McCain refused last night on Hardball to say he wouldn't support it. He said he'd have to look at the final bill. I think we'll get some conservative Democrats. Unlike in 2002, most of our targets are liberals representing liberals and they can more easily get away with voting against the bill.
They'll probably try to stick this on the budget reconciliation bill. I think it would pass that way.

"Business spending must increase"
I totally agree with you. In our small community, the small business folks are really hurting: no expansions, no hiring, no new investments, etc. Their attitudes affect the whole county.
President Bush's economic plan is front page news in the local paper today. I plan on spreading this good news myself, with every client I speak with!

The very day he comes out with his economic plan, he renominates Pickering, and lets the world know that Priscilla Owen and Miguel Estrada are to be resubmitted, as well.
I thought of this as well. The Democrats and their friends in the major media now have a choice on what story to complain about. Some will complain about one or the other, but they are not speaking with one voice.
I am hoping that with all this noise from the left, the only thing the swing votes will hear are the shrill voices of doom and gloom.

(The Democrats have never seen a tax that couldn't be improved by increasing it)

There were hints about cutting spending in the President's speech. There were also hints of legal reform (tort reform, especially in the face of WV, PA, and FL doctor strike threats), that government can't make successful companies but can only remove obstacles to success, and that we're still concentrating on the war effort (not handling problems one-at-a-time, like the moron liberals keep begging for).
Rather Reaganesque. It felt great to listen. I had to applaud more than once... while driving on the interstate.

I guess I didn't watch this close enough. Did he include in his proposal any reduction in the self-employment tax? Currently at 15 percent, that one is a killer for small business owners operating as sole proprietors, partnerships, or LLCs.

That is great news allright. The REAL world - something the Dems can't face.

Just like the first Congress of his Presidency, W. is wasting no time getting an aggressive agenda out there. Be prepared for them to push hard for as much as they can get now, then War with Iraq for the rest of this year, followed by a summer of "compassionate conservative" pandering.
W. will try hard to lock down his base over the next six months...conservative judges, tax cuts, and PBA ban.

Spending is NEXT !!! [I hope] I thought I heard GW make a point in his speech a that Congress has to do their part and control spending. I hope that means his budget will hold the line on spending.
