What contract? I remember an oath, but I don't remember signing any contract.

Remember all that paperwork you signed at the MEPS when you enlisted?

That was your enlistment contract.

No I don't remember, but that was 1964. I do remember being promised FREE health care for life for 23 years. That didn"t happen either though.

ah, the good ol'e Military Entrance Processing Service Center in San Antonio . . .

The odd thing I remembered about MEPS . . .

They called "Air Force" and a whole bunch of people got up.
They called "Army" and a gazillion people got up.
They called "Navy" and a whole bunch of people got up.
They called "Coast Guard" - two guys got up.
They called "Marine" - and I got up.

Everybody in the Army, Air Force, and Navy lines were staring at me, as they had to hurry up and form a line so that they could do whatever they did . . . and then... this old Gunnery Sgt. puts his hand on my shoulder, and says - "When we say one of the few, we were not joking.". He smiled and said, "actually, we usually get 4 or 5 - but lets get you cook'n." and off I went . . .
