"I didn't come on this program declaring that I was consistent, did I?"I normally try to express myself without resorting to vulgarity, but for this Champion of America's Slouch towards Gomorrah, I can think of only one word to describe him:
Norman Lear is an asshole.

NO, you just have to have hardened seats put in the heads for the valve to seat on. However if you have a high compression motor then you do need an octane boost.
To: InvisibleChurch
Not really. The lead acted mostly as a lubricant for valves. If you install hardened valve seats and stainless steel valves, you won't have any problems running unleaded.
I have an old 51 Chevy pickup with a 58 235ci straight six in it. Been running unleaded with no additive for over ten years. Still runs fine.
There are lubricants out there that don't contain lead, but do the same job. Also, most of what the older cars really needed was octane because of higher compression levels.

I was thinking the same thing when Ari Emanuel (President of Endeavor, producer of the spots) told Larry Elder that he had gotten rid of his Ferrari. Unless he had it crushed and recycled, didn't he just pass all that gas-guzzling Italian steel on to someone else to terrorize the rest of us? He's an accessory to terrorism (and no doubt, made a bit of cash on the deal as well).
To: IYAS9YAS
I should clarify. I have not put hardened seats in my 51. The truck has only about 6000 miles on it in 13 years. Have been driving it more lately and am looking to redo the paint and fix a few dings. By the way, with all the new technology on the road today, my 1958 235 with a single barrel carb got me 17 MPG (no overdrive so top speed was 70MPH with the engine sounding like it was gonna throw a rod) on a trip from Tucson, AZ to Nampa, ID in 1993.

Who is more guilty of wasting bandwidth?
The poster of a thread, or those who reply to the thread to point out that they didn't like the thread, thus bumping it back to the top and encouraging more people to read it?
To: sharktrager
Quite possibly the person who replies to the person disagreeing with the thread. This created endless useless bandwidth ;-)

It is not good enough for them to get rid of their gas guzzling cars, they need to send them to the scrap heap. If they sell them, someone else will drive them. So in the spirit of charity, to save mother earth, and promote world peace. Destroy all vehicles not meeting CAFE standards for passenger cars, including limos. They can go to the oscars in a diesel bus. Carpooling would help their images anyway.

Of course not. The biggest waster is the person responding to the person responding to the person who disagreed with the thread.

I think these SUV hypocrites need to be Freeped outside of their 10,000 sq ft mansions, at their yachts, and private airports.

Must be nice to be a drooling liberal and be unencumbered by any concept of "credibility".
To: plain talk
I was going to say that I didn't think all twenty one vehicles were Geo Metros.
To: plain talk
Once again the TRUE LIBERAL'S creed....... INTENTIONS are all that counts. He is against SUV'S, but drives one. No problem. He "INTENDS" to get rid of it. Case closed, no hypocrisy!

Well said, I have restrained myself many times from POSTING on a thread I think useless or about a subject i.e.(Hilliary & Bill) that I can't stand. However for the reason YOU pointed out I refrain from posting at all. I have no problem however bumping this thread!

When he "gets rid of" his SUV I'm pretty sure he'll sell it to someone. If he wanted to be responsible (and if SUV's were really bad) he would have it destroyed so nobody would be driving it. After all, he could afford to do that. He'll get rid of the SUV when the rainy season in Kalifornia is over, and then he'll buy a new one this fall...

Barbara Streisand has been branded a hypocrite after refusing to turn down her air conditioning despite telling fellow Californians to cut back on electricity during the state's current energy crisis. On her website, the legendary singer implores fellow Californians to turn their thermostats up. However, employees for the 59-year-old diva have claimed she routinely keeps the central air conditioning blasting in her many homes - including her Manhattan penthouse - even when she is thousands of miles away. One unnamed employee told reporters: "She is someone who cannot be hot, not even for a minute. Maybe it's menopause, but she refuses to sweat. She freaks if she walks into a warm room."
