ERNDALE, Mich. - One of Detroit's biggest developers has been advertising vacant lofts in local gay publications, taking a lesson from the economic rejuvenation of this nearby suburb and trying to lure gay residents to move into the city.
''It's very true that Ferndale hit its stride because of the positive influence of gays,'' said David Farbman, president and chief executive of the Farbman Group, a real estate corporation that advertised the lofts. ''In order for Detroit to expedite what it can become, it has to have a strong gay community.''

Super, let Detroit recruit gays. I hope they advertise in the Cape Cod publications so the normal people can take it back.

My thoughts exactly.

"'For a community to be strong, it has to have some diversity,' said Tom Barwin, Ferndale's city manager."
What poppycock. Man this diversity construct is truly pernicious. It seeks to destroy not only in the present and future, but also in the past.

Gates said his research seems to confirm an old axiom, that the property values in fringe neighborhoods tend to increase after gay men move in.Overall, cities like Boston, and particularly its South End neighborhood, have the vibrancy and diversity that appeals to the creative class, Florida contends. It is also an indicator to industries that it is a city where highly talented people people want to live, he says.
Greenwich Village in New York is another example of an area that has been revitalized after it earned a reputation as a "gay" area. The author of this article really misses the point, though. The "gay" issue has nothing to do with the economic revival of these areas -- the real issue is that the people moving to these areas are relatively young, predominantly single (and never intend to raise children), mostly professional, and often have pathological, insatiable appetites on several different levels. These are people with money to spend, and spend it they do.

diverstiy, like racism, is another "buzz word" used to shame some people (like the conservative public) and keep opposing voices quieted. You know, like.... "if you don't share my views or beliefs then you are a racist or you are intolerant, etc. Shame on you for opposing my views or beliefs!"

Hehehe
.Let me try!
Research suggests there is a direct correlation between sizable conservative communities and economically viable cities.
Research suggests there is a direct correlation between sizable gay communities and pedophilic abuse.
Research suggests there is a direct correlation between sizable gay communities and the degeneration of traditional values.

Quite right.
I do not agree that gays are necessarily drawn to "tolerant" environs insomuch as they are drwn to interesting, attractive or opportunity locales.
Key West, SF, New Orleans and a few other places like that are simply pretty or unique places and homosexuals are not encumbered by dependents other than themselves which creates a lot of options financially and otherwise that someone with 5 dependents like me would not have.
Homosexuals did not migrate to South beach, Montrose(Houston), Lower Mckinney(Dallas), Buckhead(Atlanta) or even (Hillsboro Village/Vandy/Belmont area(here in Nashville) because of "tolerance". They came into those areas following one another because of opportunity. All that "tolerance" which really means changing the existing social mores comes later usually.....and then may very well attract the post-pioneer wave.
What is ironic is that eventually the young married hetero couples then come in later and towards the end of the cycle...the homosexuals move on to new ground.
It is not uncommon for the homosexual vanguard to be among the first to gentrify decaying urban neighborhoods. That speaks of opportunity obviously.

two large rainbow-colored pylons that were paid for with tax dollars.
Pylons? What's with that? I know Freud said sometimes a cigar is a cigar, but pleaaasee... and the name BOYStown? I thought they were supposedly gay MEN, but apparently its really about boys.

''For a community to be strong, it has to have some diversity,'' said Tom Barwin, Ferndale's city manager. ''They have got to have diversity and embrace all types of people. They can't afford to be homophobic.''....what they forgot to add to that "that way the white trailor trash that live here won't look so bad!!!!!!
Research suggests there is a direct correlation between sizable gay communities and the degeneration of traditional values.
....twenty years ago their traditional values consisted of waiting till your relatives left the house before you pilfered it.

Chicago has gone one step further by designating Boystown, six blocks of North Halstead Street, as an official gay neighborhood. Seeing as gays don't reproduce, they recruit, this name is probably fitting.
As to the eventualy gentrification of these areas. Yuppie couples just follow the interior decorators.
I thank God that I live in an area that the sexual deviants won't like.
