Perhaps the educrats at Duke could benefit from a sampling of public opinion on the matter...

Good...one more reason to dislike Duke University. Duke students at their home basketball games have got to be the biggest A-holes of all time.

Planting a bomb in the U.S. Capitol Building in 1983 was the culmination of a lifetime of radical protest for Laura Whitehorn, and 14 years in federal penitentiary have only solidified her stance as a committed American revolutionary. . . She enjoys moonlit walks along the cellblock, serious discussion of the dialectic over a crisp chardonnay, and vigorous struggle against the running dogs of late-stage imperialist capitalism. Now let's say hello to Bachelorette Number One...

Capitol bomb in '83? IIRC, that was the one planted under a couch in the lobby outside the Senate cloakroom. It went off after the Senate had adjourned for the evening, so fortunately no one was around. It did cause quite a lot of damage. The Senate, however,
had been scheduled to be in late that night. The bomb could easily have killed quite a few people.
I wonder if the professoriate would take a different view of such matters if someone blew up a few faculty lounges?

She has also researched the many cases in the U.S. of HIV positive people locked up for supposed 'crimes of transmission. now there's a novel idea; fags being held responsible for the disease they spread!

President Keohane:
According to Duke's webpage
http://www.duke.edu/web/africanameric/specevents.html#Mar3
...you are hosting a visit by Laura Whitehorn. Your website bills her as a 'revolutionary anti-imperialist who spent over 14 years in federal prison as a political prisoner'. Well, not exactly. Ms. Whitehorn was convicted in 1983 of planting a bomb in the US Capitol building.
In the future, will you be extending invitations to Osama Bin Laden, or perhaps Saddam Hussein? How far does Duke's antipathy to your country and its democratic institutions go?

Mr. Muth has evidently detected his error -- this just arrived in my email from Chuck Muth's News and Views list:
Gender Bender
The president of Duke University is a woman, not a man... though that doesn't change the facts surrounding the brouhaha involving Ms. Whitehorn's invitation to speak there on March 3.

Call Jerry Agar, WRAL-TV, WTVD-TV, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, the News & Observer and whoever else we can think of.

On March 3, 2003, a certain Laura Whitehorn is scheduled to speak...That's 3/3/03.
They should cancel and invite her back on June 6, 2006.
