Saw it on Fox just a few minutes ago too. Said the big protest is thinning out now. Looks like its not making a big splash. Pretty dull and lifeless like them. Weren't that many people there. Fox opinion poll said 67% suppport Bush and 23% don't in the U.S. The anti-war protestors are losing the battle. HEH HEH

"Those who hold America in contempt for its lack of refinement (this writer always has held the term "American culture" to be an oxymoron) should think carefully about this conclusion. From their founding on Christmas Day 800 AD, when Charlemagne accepted the crown of the revived Roman Empire, the institutions of the West have been formed in response to external threat. The Holy Roman Empire of the High Middle Ages, Tolkien's conscious model for the Kingdom of Gondor, arose in response to the incursions of Arabs in the south, Vikings in the north, and Magyars in the West. Boorish and gruff as the new American Empire might seem, it is an . . . anti-empire (( link // fr post )) populated by reluctant heroes who want nothing more than to till their fields and mind their homes, much like Tolkien's Hobbits. Under pressure, though, it will respond with a fierceness and cohesion that will surprise its adversaries."

The anti war crowd really was big, but why not? The networks promoted all week long. I watched a good chunk of it, and couldn't help taking notes for all those with stomachs to weak to handle it. Here goes, typos and all:

The first direct quote I catch, from a New York Indian chief :
"In the spirit of Dr. King...in the spirit of Crazy Horse...no more war for oil."

"George W. Bush..George W. Bush....You want war, here is the answer...NO MORE WAR"

"To end war, hatred, and racism...solidarity is rising, and we will overcome war", from a Palestinian, Elias Rashmawi, (Free Plalestine Alliance) " George W. Bush's imperialization is not the answer. Your US Patriot Act is not the answer. WE ARE THE ANSWER. WE ARE THE ANSWER". "And in Palestinian refugee camps, we know too well, we know how to let freedom ring. George Bush, and butcher Sharon, it's time to stop fighting us...it is us who holds the answer."

Chanting time: "NO WAR ON IRAQ...END THE SANCTIONS NOW." (repeat after me)

'"We are a truely historic movement", "Money for George Bush's toys has been taken out of our scholarship money". so says Peta Lindsey, Youth Leader.

"soldiers will be killed in the name of freedom we have never known", says Peta. You have to wonder if she's actually hearing what she says.

Free the Cuban Five Committee spokesbimbo: "the cold we face today is nothing like the cold justice these five face." 5 Cubans under arrest in Miami..have no idea what she was talking about.

Liz McAlister, widow of some wonderful person named Berrigan, Jonah House, Is that the guy who said there were millions and millions of homeless in America....but only when there's a republican administration in the White House? (Homelessness is not a problem when Democrats are in office)

"Sisters and Brothers"...."Sisters and Brothers".....this is the most favored salutration. Guess it's the anti-war crowds answer to "I love ya man".

"The struggle is the victory". Blase Bonpane, Office of the America says. I guess that means "freeze your stupid butts off and love it cause that's all that's going to come of your demonstration". This is your "victory over presidential lies". Dontcha just love these soundbites?

Sort of calm, intelligent sounding guy gives a message from gays, lesbians, LGBT Rights Commission, Queers for Peace and Justice, Jesse Heiwa is his name. He's selling blue tee shirts. "We are oppressed, so are the gay Palestinians"....like who knew there were any?

Tyne Daly, Actress...says..."this is the way we should spend our week=ends from now on. (She's gotten real fat, guess she doesn't have much a life?)

"Labor Against the War" representative Brenda Stokely asks the crowd, "Sisters and Brothers, why are we here?" "We've got to be against any war perpetrated by this government. We must say no". (In other words, anything George W. Bush does, we must be against.)

Jennifer Wager, IFCO/Pastors for Peace introduces black union guy. who starts with,....you guessed it....."Brothers and Sisters". He says, " We want jobs but peaceful jobs." "We want peace for the unborn generations". (guess that means the unaborted ones.)

What the hell is a "co-convenier"? Everyone who gets introduced is a "co-convener of the movement". I think it must be the ones who provide the laxatives. Hey! I think I'm onto something. These are the "regular people" John Edwards wants to champion!

Another labor leader from New York labor says America is the greatest perveyor of world violence in the world today. Calls President Bush a "chicken hawk".

At 11:56 am, "half of the buses are still not here", says Elias, as he introduces Ron Kovic. Hey man....this ain't Tom Cruise!!!! "I got shot on Dr. King's birthday, he says.

and now we get down to the real business at hand. Ramsey Clark says we''ve got to impeach President Bush. There ya go! Now the crowd is chanting, "Impeach Bush". Well, for a second or two. Now the announcer says "hug each other". ( Let's look for the "Impeach Bush" website, that will be up in a few days....we can have lots of fun with that. )

More chanting, "Rise up people against the war". Hey, the crowd is really getting into this one.

Ashfraf El-Bayoumi, Cairo Peace Conference brings greetings from Egypt. He's wearing a really cute black beret,

and Jessica Lange said she isn't speaking today as a politician or a celebrity...she's "only there as a Mother, as a parent." Got that?

She says....."This administration has tried to keep us mezmerized and paralyzed by their talk of their war...they are e-vis-a-rat-ing our civil rights. our womens' rights, and environmental policies". They are trying to silence the voice of dissent...how far will they go to silence us?And we are made to look foolish."""" (We' can't stand for that"..uh huh..that's against our civil rights....nobody notime is gonna make me look foolish...I can do that all by myself. )

Oh Jessica...you looked so much better half nekkid, getting blow dried by that big monkey.

Ihab Darwish..Free Palestine Alliance brings greetings from the people of Palestine...those rascally Israelies got " their tanks of mass destruction" turned on us. (Love the black and white head thingie wrapped warmly around his neck. very stylish)

Let me condense the important things so far. Brothers and Sisters and Palestinian Rights.

Brian Becker, nice looking white guy. .is some kind of celebrity in "the movement"...but he starts with "Brothers and Sisters" too. He says "we proved to the people of the world that Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Powell are liars." "War of Imperialism, that's' what this is" (insert "Sisters and Brothers" anywhere you like...he did.)

"Heat up Washington, Stop the War". nice chant here comes Jesse, Here comes Jesse... da black fedora, nice touch, and first order of business is to say President Bush indulged in race-baiting last week. (Let the rhymes begin) "start the marching..This land is your land, this land is my land, ...give peace a chance... because we got fire in our belly for peace. today we march, cold weather could not stop us...why are we here today... why do we march...choose life over death....."(ABORTION NOTWITHSTANDING.)...

Now we getting down to it. black sistah from New York..... she be "speaking as a descendent of slaves" . and she opens her speech with, not Brothers and Sisters, but "COMRADES.". And listen, she says..."we cannot forget Africa".

and this is a great crowd. it looks really big....and I'm thinking tomyself.. these people hate the democrats as much as they hate republicans, and they love Palestine more than they hate either one.

And ohmigawd, I just heard another spinning whopper..hours later. Margaret Carlson said the missles found last week was a "clerical breach". But inbetween all the garbage, my daughter and I went to see the musical movie, "Chicago".

Now ya know...the rest of the story
