Any idea what's with these late starting times today? Is this just for the conference championships or is this the wave of the future and we'll start seeing these starting times every Sunday??

It's just for the Playoffs. There already is a Sunday prime-time game every week at 8:35pm on ESPN during the regular season.

NFL wants the 'Showcase' game [Raiders vs. Titans] on a lucrative Sunday night prime time for more ad money.

I think the times of these games is perfect. I can get all my errands done, get an early dinner and spend the rest of the day watching the games while still getting to bed at a reasonable hour.

The traditional 1PM starts are not convenient for me at all as I usually have a lot going on around the house at that time.

I spent most of this morning taking care of errands and getting firewood inside the house to warm up (it was -8 degrees here this morning) for the fireplace. My wife's famous lasagna is almost ready and afterwards, I will clean up the kitchen for her and head down the basement where I will commence to light a fire in the fireplace and do nothing but watch football from 3PM on. I am rooting for a Tampa Bay/Oakland Super Bowl. Then I want to see Rich Gannon's Raiders destroy the Buccanneers in the big game!

Normally I root against the Raiders but this year is different. Not only do I want to see Rich Gannon get a much deserved ring to cap off his long career, but I feel a little bad about my Patriots beating them last year on a bad call. Since the Patriots are out of the running, I'd like to see the Raiders get what they probably should have gotten a crack at last year.

BTW, I've added some keywords...

Trash talking should not be done in the keywords but here on the thread if need be. Moderators don't like abuse of keywords.

I wouldnt be suprised to see a 6:30 PM Saturday start for the other conference championship game as well, like the Final 4 does.

My heart says Tampa Bay,
but reality says Phillie.

Oakland - Tennessee, on the other hand...
I heard Tenn. has a new secret weapon,
you guessed it Officer Hall.
Bringin' a 12 guage and going to clean up
The Black Hole.

I'll take Tenn, in the upset.

That would be fun to see Gruden against his old squad.

Would make for quite a week leading up to the big game.

Too bad.

I liked the old afternoon games, where the first one of the day (the Eastern one) started at 1:00 EST. That way, inspired by the event, you still had time to have a spontaneous scrum with your buddies outside. The NHL also used to have afternoon playoff games (loved watching those growing up!), but they don't do that anymore - not enough money, I guess.

Bring back afternoon playoff games!!!

I agree, it was our turn and payback for the "roughing the passer" penalty back in 1976 that turned a sure-thing Patriots win into a Raiders win (Raiders went on to win the Super Bowl that year).

Nevertheless, it was still a bad call and now that the Patriots are out of it, I'm rooting for the Raiders because they deserve it.
