If Kerry gets the nomination it will only be because he is willing to fund his own campaign. However, he will be acceptable only to the liberal Northeast, CA and the Northwest.
He needs a personality transplant. His disdain for ordinary folks will not play well in Peoria, IMO. It's also going to be difficult being 'for the little guy' when you're living in a Back Bay mansion courtesy of your wife's trust fund from her dead REPUBLICAN husband.
