This preoccupation with the word "war" is getting on my nerves--bigtime.
When one uses "war," the immediate images are years of fighting; bodybags by the thousands; quagmire, etc.
I have ultimate faith in our president, and I do NOT for one minute believe that he will get us into a conventional, protracted "war." I am convinced that this will be swift, decisive, and intense. We will take out the power lines, invade, kill a few bad guys who are Saddam's protectors, and then Saddam will either off himself, or we capture his ass. His son, Uday, will be found in the fetal position begging for dear life.

However you slice it or define it, War is a nasty business. Only those who have never seen the end results of a fire fight, artillery attack, or a bombing raid throw that word around lightly. I agree it will be fast but it will NOT be bloodless, for either side. Ponder on the impact the telegram and visit from the gentlemen in uniforms would have on a member of your family.
By the way, I'm retired Army and have driven for a few of those notifications, not a plesant duty. Nor is the sceen of a major battle.
