THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS
By: William A. Shields
Like the blood-thirsty, problem solving house plant in the musical play The Little Shop of Horrors, our own federal government is devouring lives, careers, businesses and reputations at a phenomenal rate. The "fearful master" that George Washington warned us about is here, and this monster's favorite food is whistleblowers, constitutionalists, and anyone who would suggest limiting federal power or otherwise impede the steady march toward One World Government.
Let there be no mistake about this. Our federal government has become the largest, most powerful and prolific crime syndicate the world has ever seen. For one man to stand up to this behemoth is to invite being hammered into oblivion like a fifty-ton pile driver hitting a ten-penny nail. Should any group, say a church full of people decide to fight, they're asking to get Waco-ized into Reno fried chicken.
Consider the case of Thurston Paul Bell, a web site owner and entrepreneur in Hanover, Pa. He runs a web site that explains a few little known but interesting facts about the federal tax code, and charges folks a modest fee that so far, has not even covered his expenses. The information that can be obtained (until recently) on his web site, allows most citizens, using the law as it is actually written, to pay the least amount of taxes legally owed, and shows persons how to use various, little known forms and regulations to protect their due process rights. If I read Mr. Bell right, he is all about letting folks use the ACTUAL written law, especially where such law FAVORS the U.S. citizen.
The facts that are brought to light about very nature of our tax code and the ensuing controversy that has since erupted, may in fact be ground zero in the war to take back our government, if such a noble goal is still obtainable. For it seems that once one examines the simple concept behind the "source code argument," one immediately steps onto the next naturally juxtaposed platform. That is that America's tax burden is by law, to be borne primarily by foreign governments and foreign interests, and certainly NOT on the backs of American citizens working and earning wages within the various states. For the sake of brevity I will not expound on the ramifications (all positive) of returning to such constitutional sources of revenue, except to say that smaller revenue streams equal smaller government equals moral government.
And now the nail that stands up is the one getting hammered down. Mr. Bell has been sued by the IRS for promulgating false commercial speech. Judge Christopher Conner of the Federal District Court of the Middle District of Pennsylvania, has decided in favor of his own employer the federal government, and has enjoined Mr. Bell and his web site from promoting what the court now says is false commercial speech. Mr. Bell is also ordered to turn over to federal prosecutors the names of all members of his educational organization. http://nite.org/.
There are many disturbing questions that arise from this latest episode of government gone berserk. What if a news organization such as the New York Times was to promote and publicize the same information? What about a talk radio host? Would this also be false commercial speech? Would the government enjoin these businesses from presenting this information to the public? Is the mere act of posting the actual written law of the land on a web site grounds for government prosecution?
It is interesting to note that neither Judge Conner's decision, nor the government's case specifically addressed the actual legal argument set forth by Mr. Bell, which supposedly constituted "false speech".
Let's hear from the ACLU on this one. The first amendment being their bailiwick, this case is a cannon shot straight into their wheelhouse.
A respected friend opined that the government cannot allow the truth (about federal taxes) to be told. To do so would invite the fall of federal government as we know it. But just as a high rise office building cannot stand on a foundation of quicksand, a government built on lies, deceit, threats and extortion will likewise topple and deservedly so.
A government that is big enough to give you all you want is big enough to take it all away. BARRY GOLDWATER (1964)
