MBABANE- The bum vendors husband Selby Zwane is seething with anger coupled with shock at the stunts his wife performed last week.
The soft-spoken Zwane is still shocked at what his wife did and believes that a dark cloud is engulfing his family.
The Zwane homestead, at Mpolonjeni, north of Mbabane City, resembles a bereaved homestead.
However, Zwane has indicated that he is willing to welcome his wife back, if only to clear the air and explain what came into her mind to decide to bare it all and further join those who assaulted the police officer.
Looking at the Zwane homestead, one could not imagine seeing a vendor, cleaner or even a maid residing there where the corrupt Lindiwe Zwane (nee Dlamini) who showcased her bums to a police officer and further beat him resides.
Zwane, who is employed by the Swaziland Royal Insurance Corporation (SRIC) is the muscle supporting his family, however, he decided to allow his wife into the market business to continue with it for the sake of keeping her busy.
Though the market income was once significant when the family was still struggling to make ends meet, it is not understood why Lindiwe decided to vacate her stall in the main Mbabane market and venture into the illegal street vending business.
She never bothered to explain to her husband about her escapade in town but simply returned home claiming to be tired and requested to be excused from household chores so that she could sleep earlier.
Her husband was not troubled about her whereabouts until three days later when the police came with her for breast feeding the 10-month old Mduduzi.
She drinks and smokes and she does not deserve to be a married woman, a neighbour who requested anonymity confided to The Times.
This is how the interview with Zwane at his homestead went.
Times: What can you say about your wifes behaviour in town and what do you think might have compelled her to act like this?
Zwane: I am still shocked and it is unfortunate that I did not get a chance to see the picture in the newspaper. I dont know what forced her to act like this because when she returned on Wednesday afternoon she never told me that she did such a thing in town, she simply went to sleep and left early in the morning without saying a word. I got to know about it from my neighbours who had seen her picture in the newspaper.
Times: Has she at any point in time attempted to beat you or once showed her bums to you and how is her reaction whenever you have a hot argument?
Zwane: It has never happened at any point that she attempted to beat me. I used to beat her on many occasions and she could not even report that to her parents at Hilltop. She never showcased her buttocks around the yard- she is just a humble person and I dont know what prompted her to act like this.
Times: Why havent you attempted to look for your wife after going missing for three days?
Zwane: She is usually out until late and I never had a problem with it. I was shocked to see her coming in the company of the police and it clicked that she had been arrested. All along I had doubted the truth of the story when a neighbour told me about her arrest.
Times: What difficulties are you and your four children currently facing so far?
Zwane: I have a problem with the young one (10 months old). He cries now and again because at the time of my wifes arrest she was still breastfeeding him. I just hope that the police will continue bringing her home to give her a chance to breastfeed the child. Besides that I have no serious problem and the older three children are not giving me any problem at all.
Times: Should the court of law find her guilty and slap her with a sentence that goes with a fine will you pay the fine for her?
Zwane: I will pay it because I still need her to give me an explanation why she did such a ghastly thing. Furthermore I wish to put an end to the whole episode soon because it is giving me a problem in the community. People are pointing at me and saying that is the womans husband.
Something lost in the translation, it appears...
If I mooned a cop, he'd sure know it!
Much better reading than the NY Times.
Wonder if she's a Raider fan, too....
Well, she once showed me a couple of homeless bums....
