According to Microsoft and Cisco, Internet technology (TCP/IP) will soon supplant traditional telephone and television networks.

Level3 has been using TCP/IP on its voice network for several years.
It seems a little scary to have all of our information infrastructure moving toward a single global public network - one which is inherently susceptible to packet storms.  And its not reassuring that most hosts run software written by a company that just doesn't seem to get when it comes to security.

Zone Alarm would be useless. This was directed at SQL servers.

Well, ZA was blocking a bunch of pings to my Port 1434 on Saturday. About one a minute for a while.

You and countless millions of others, but do you run MS SQL 2000?

I'm no computer expert by far, but this vulnerability was already addressed and stopped by McAfee's personal firewall about 8 months ago. I agree as has been said earlier; there's no excuse for this. It's just a pathetic display of unpreparedness.
