If Ted Kennedy drove a VW Bug, he could have been president.

"No one has ever been healed by a frivolous lawsuit."One of my favorite lines from the speech.

I burst out laughing when they showed John Edwards, the trial lawyer, wannabe President, from NC. How appropriate!

Course, there'll be the loonies who say that the mention of the environment is just to appease the public, while not really doing anything about it. Why do I think people need torture described? Remember Somalia? People were dying of starvation on TV. The American people said, "We've got to DO SOMETHING!" We are an image-based culture. When we see something, then, and only then, do we react. I can't wait till Bush ties Saddam and Osama. I didn't hear it tonight but maybe I missed it. I'd like to tie those two together and shoot them.

The posers are really exposing themselves tonight, aren't they? If you watched some of the RAT pundits, they are actually more kind than some so-called freepers tonight. Don't let it get you down. This night was fantastic, This PRESIDENT is wonderful. And there is little that his detractors can do to change that! ;-)

The President alluded to it tonight and from what I have heard, Secretary of State Colin Powell will give the tie-in between Saddam and Al Qaeda when he briefs the United Nations on 5 February!

I didn't see your thread until just now. Sorry to have missed the action. I taped the speach for later consumption. I slept through it. I woke up during the speach and was able to observe a number of things. Bush was getting standing ovations every few moments. His speach lasted 59.5 minutes and was interrupted over 70 times for applause.
Seated right there in the front was Senator Klinton. The first time I saw her was a moment when she stood to applaud Bush. She was situated right behind about six military personel. The look on her face spoke volumes. She had a great big skowl because everywhere she could look forward, there was a uniform smack dab in front of her. LOVED IT!
I didn't expect everything Bush said to please me. I did see enough of his speach to know that some of it did. I also saw enough of it to know some of it didn't.
As I have always said, I'll continue to praise Bush when warranted and criticize him when warranted. I do not consider him to be a conservative's conservative. However I do not dislike the man.
Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush are supposed to be three of the stupidist people ever to hold the office of President. Gerald Ford was played up as a buffoon and who needs to remind anyone what the media thought of Nixon? None the less, it's the two last Democrats to hold the office that flit from one plant to the next trying to polinate up a legacy. I've never seen Republicans do this, in fifty years of observation. Richard Nixon didn't even do it. Evidently they think they need to. Can't say that I disagree with them.
History is going to be very kind to all these stupid Republicans the left try to trash at every opportunity. Jimmy and Billy will be haunted by their ineptitude in perpetuity.
Bush is okay. He's been saddled with some big problems. He has been a major disappointment. He has been a breath of fresh air. What can I say.

Very good synopsis is what I say!

I have never been against honest criticism and will agree with some of it from time to time but some of the comments from a few posters on here crossed the line IMHO when you give no credit at all for this speech.
Thought it was a great speech and came right after the University of Oklahoma beat Texas A&M in basketball so it has been a wonderful night to be a Republican and a Sooner!

what's the matter, Fred?
It was a slam dunk for Bush.
To: PhiKapMom
Look I like the man. However, he's not doing what he was elected to do, mainly cut the size of government. While I agree there may be a 'war' going on and to an extent as I said I support even that, the first half of his speech was a promise to spend more money, in ventures while honorable, are not constitutional nor profitable for the groups they're aimed at in the long run.
But yes he's better than Gore would have been, he much more moral than Clinton ever was, however he's suggesting large leaps in spending our money while in the next sentence promising to give it back. One of those isn't going to happen to a large extent

I like my gas guzzler and I don't want to give up performance for a bunch of greenies. There's plenty of petroleum in Alaska. Go get it. SSSShhhhhh.....it's called politics. He pulled the rug out from under the Dem's tonight. Hang tight. You AND I will continue to run our gas guzzler's for a loooooong time.
And thank you for praying for the President!!!!

"You, the Congress, have already passed all these reductions, and promised them for future years. If this tax relief is good for Americans three, or five, or seven years from now, it is even better for Americans today."
That's my favorite quote. By the way, is it typical for half the place (Republican) to stand and cheer and the other half sit on their hands? (Like after this statement.) Did we do this to Clinton?
