"The fundamental problem with waiting for the so-called 'smoking gun' is that by the time you smell the smoke, the bullet has already hit you. That is the threat before us today, only instead of bullets, we have the very real threat of Anthrax, VX, botulinum toxin, and quite possibly, Smallpox. And I, as your President, can not afford to, can not in good conscience, wait for our enemies to bring this battle to our shores."
Having heard William Bennett's brilliant disassembly of Susan Sarandon's whining tonight, I would have liked Bush to take the Hitler/Saddam paradigm in hand.
"6 million Jews were incinerated in Hitler's ovens because, for a while, the world ignored the machinations of a madman in the Sudetenland and Poland, backed up by the most modern and deadly technology of the day. Just like Hitler used the Treaty of Versailles as toilet paper, Saddam is using numerous UN resolutions for the same purpose. How strong do you want me to allow Saddam to become before you finally say 'Enough!?"
