Jews have mixed reactions to pro-Israel fervor of some evangelical Christians

The ongoing Mideast conflict has created an awkward partnership for American Jewish groups, which are finding some of the staunchest pro-Israel support in this nation comes from a vocal group of evangelical Christians.

Activists from both communities say Jews and evangelicals are working together more closely than ever, with conservative Protestant groups raising funds, lobbying Congress and organizing rallies in support of Israel -- including an increasing number of joint Jewish-Christian events.

Very good news for Israel and bad news for RCW2001.

This is a recycled story that pops up nearly every 2-3 months. The media is desperate to separate Jews and evangelical Christians, who believe in the same thing when it comes to Israel---if for different reasons.

Hey, I want the Dallas Cowboys to win the Super Bowl because I'm a Cowboys fan. My wife wants them to win because I promised her a 6-point pendant when they win their next one. The motives are vastly different, but the end is exactly the same.

If Jews are convinced that Jesus is not the Messiah, they should welcome all the evangelists in the world who support Israel as a state. You could send a different Muslim evangelist to my house every day and it wouldn't shake my faith or change my mind.

"Christianity is being portrayed in the Mideast as a pro-Israel, Zionist, fundamentalist religion," he said. "This is horribly damaging to the church and the future of the Jewish people."

Need a little cheese with that whine?

The media is desperate to separate Jews and evangelical Christians

yes, they are (the media) ... but evangelicals know what the New Testament Scriptures say about our Jewish brothers and sisters, especially Romans 9, 10 and 11 (for those who are interested) ... we stand against the misuse of the name of Christianity against Jews and Israel ... it is unBiblical and it is just plain wrong ...

Kind of troubling? Christians defending and supporting Jews?

Very troubling - for jew-hating bigots.

His support for Israel is based on biblical verses such as Genesis 12:3, in which God tells Abraham, "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse."

I wonder who God was talking about? There wasn't any nation named Israel.

Lerner says Jewish leaders such as Eckstein, who work with Christian Zionists, are "opportunists of the worst sort."

Alouette says bogus, dope-smoking "rabbis" such as Michael Lerner, who work with genocidal Muslim murderers, are traitors of the worst sort.

Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. It is tiny Israel that gave us the basis for most of our law, and I feel that I am indebted to them for what they have given to us, even unknowingly. We are linked to Israel, and it should be no surprise that we support them in their time of trouble.

Inflammatory comments about Islam from people like Falwell "will only make Israel's future harder," said Wagner of North Park University.

"Christianity is being portrayed in the Mideast as a pro-Israel, Zionist, fundamentalist religion," he said. "This is horribly damaging to the church and the future of the Jewish people."

Truth is more inflamatory, and they have a problem with it..

Who is a Jew? Those who have suffered during the Nazi era because of their association with Jews. So that makes Christians siding with Jews Jews, technicaly. The reason for the mixed reaction is that Jews fear Christians could herald a hellenised Jewish state denying the existence of the genuine Jewish tribal sanctuary meant to perdure the truh handed down on Mount Sinai. You have to admit that the possibility for unwitting Christian Orwellianism against the Jewish memory exists.

The relation is kind of like an old man living with a big baby. It's a loving and well wishing powerful relation, but it is not a sustainable one. The elder cannot ensure the future of young hungry souls and the young hungry souls cannot ensure the memory of the elder. There is a continuum disconect.

Says Land: "The same Bible that tells me to bless the Jews commands me to tell people about Jesus. If you don't want me to do that, all you have to do is say, 'No, thank you."'

The problem many face, is that Christians are to bring the Gospel to the whole world!

It is not just an effort to evangelize Israel. While I support efforts to tell the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a Jewish man, many so-called Christians need to hear it too! And, those that already know Jesus as their Saviour, need to make that faith sure in their walk and their talk and their prayer life!

Like the man said, if you want us to stop, say so. BUT, Since God tells us ISRAEL is the chosen nation, NOT THE US OR BRITAIN, I will choose to honor the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and Bless Israel!

(One of these days I will actually remember to stop asking Yehuda to Freep on the Shabbot! He must wanna smack me by now!)

Weak analogy. My analogy is better. If my faith is strong, I have nothing to fear from "hellenizing" of anyone. You can "hellenize" my block all you want, and I won't be a "hellenist."

The only theat comes from government, but since the Jews control the government, there is no threat there either. Quite the contrary, there not a lot of "religious toleration" for non-Jews in Israel. Astoundingly (well, maybe not), Israeli Jews welcome UNbelieve before any Christian belief. Of course, Jesus prophesied this too.

Jacob was renamed Israel. Thyus the Children of Jacob became the Children of Israel.
Their decendants and converts to the religion of Israel are the people of Israel.
As for there no nation, There was such an independent nation for over 1000 years.

Yes, but I think the original citation quoted was to Abraham. There were no Israelites at the time of Abraham.
