Dems Say Radio Talk Is Left Out (Dems fly-in contenders to find “their” Lefty Limbaugh)

January 31, 2003 -- DEMOCRATS on the prowl for their own version of Rush Limbaugh wined and dined three dozen potential contenders this week before and after President Bush's State of the Union address in Washington.

But as if to validate the widely-held belief that liberals can't get ratings on talk radio, the invited politicians had far more fire-power than the invited guests - and the organizer even had a problem remembering who some of the liberal talk show hosts were.

"The worst thing they could do for a talk show host is anoint them the designated party hack," warned Talkers magazine publisher Michael Harrison.

Too late.

Can you imagine the massive arbitrons Mitch Albom will post, reading Hillary Clinton’s talking points on the air each day?

His advertisers will be local ambulance chasers and porn shops.

This whole deal is soooo liberal it's funny. They really should be discussing how to force people to listen to their drivel because nobody is going to even it's the only station on the iar.

"Before you get the medium, you'd better have the right message that resonates with the American people - then radio will follow, naturally.

The 'Rat morons still think the Medium is the Message. You couldn't ask for more stupidity from your enemy.

Anybody know what Crossfire's ratings are?

If anyone presently on national air represents what the Rats apparently are looking for in a radio host, the Forehead surely comes the closest. He spews pretty well, always has the way-out-there leftist take on everything, and he makes jokes and does satire okay. Also he pretty much seems to demolish Novak every night, at least I would think so if I were a Rat sympathizer.

In sum, if I were a leftist, I suppose I would like listening to the Forehead.

So my question is: are the Rats out there drawn to Crossfire so they can have the Limbaugh experience of finally having someone on national air express what they've been thinking all along?

Do the arbitrons show that the Forehead had built any kind of a following?

Our local veteran host Neil Boortz figured out the problem with liberal talk shows long ago. Liberals don't think, they feel. Their positions are not based in rational thought. They also can't argue logically.

So as long as liberals can "issue a statement," or give talking points to the news media, or give "no questions" press conferences, or write a column, they don't have to argue or think on their feet. And the media obediently spins for them. If somebody writes in to disagree, they have lots of time to formulate an answer, and they always have the last word in a slippery footnote.

But a talk show is a whole different ball game. The callers put the host on the spot to argue his points and answer their questions and objections. And liberal talk show wannabes have consistently shown that they CAN'T do it, because (1) they don't know how to argue; and (2) their views can NOT stand up to rational scrutiny.

So they wind up losing their tempers, calling the callers names, and hanging up on them in a fury. People see this happening in "real time" and it's plain that it's not working. So the hosts lose advertising dollars and eventually the show is cancelled.

This has happened over and over again in the Atlanta market. I'm sure it's happened elsewhere.

Harrison said he's troubled by the fact that, according to Athens, some of the invited talk show hosts were "sponsored" - all expenses paid

Are the democrats a sick lot, or what? LOL

Just imagine having Sean or Rush or Neil or Mike Reagan or on and on being 'SPONSORED' by the RNC. Imagine for one second, that they were recruited, fed buzz words and daily 'gravitas' writings from the RNC.....TALK ABOUT HITLERIAN PROPAGANDA.

Can the desparate DNC go lower?

Maybe the DNC should change their name to the DPA-democrat propaganda assc.

What sick people.

They truly don't get it. Always, it has been the message, not the personality. Radio personality comes along with a good message backing it. And the message is, Americans like truth, fact, honest debate and humor in their radio shows. Right off the bat-this eliminates ANYONE who would accept a sponsorship from hillary and her filthy henchmen.

This is just so classic. Democrats are going to CHOOSE a counter to Rush. This is a perfect microchosm of thier thinking. Command and control. Meanwhile Rush steams on. The choice of the free-market. I love it!

Mitch Albom.

Funny.

The little guy should stick to writing sports columns. He used to be quite good at those, until he started developing this annoying tic where we repeats a sentence every other paragraph. Presumably, this is to remind the rubes what his central thesis is, or perhaps he just thinks it's clever.

I didn't mind it so much the first 100 times he used this banal device. But, it's getting old now.

Then, there are his cliche, center-left political views. And his whiny, nasal voice. He wouldn't last 6 months up against Rush. No way. I used to have ample time and opportunity to listen to his show on WJR in Detroit, and consistently turned him off anytime a vaguely political issue was brought up. Fingernails on the chalkboard bad.

The central requirement to being a great radio jock is to love the medium. As a teenager, Rush borrowed money to get his First Class licensed. Politics came years later. First, he had to be on the air doing anything.

Boortz will be on Donahue tonight, one on one! This will be the 2nd time I have watched Donahue. And probably the last since he will be off the air soon.

And you forgot one other item....they can't avoid blashphemy and the use of foul language. (Due to limited higher thinking skills, vocabulary, and self-control.) Listening to someone who repeats the same 4 words in every sentence gets really old. It's also bad for advertisers as parents and grandparents usually don't want such things running in the background or in the car.

They often try to cover for this tendency toward potty-mouth by claiming it's parody. Of what, I ask? Themselves, perhaps?

Liberals are delusional to think that they can capture a media market without a viable message.
Their entire platform is a pack of lies to begin with, because they can't deal with reality.
They are correct to fear and loathe the conservative talk radio arena, because of Ben Franklin's old saying about how a lie stands on one leg, truth on two.

We're dedicated to creating more diversity in talk radio, so it really is representative of America as a whole, "

What about the other mediums, dude?

Here in Austin we had a liberal trying to establish a talk radio show- Jim Hightower( former Texas Ag. Comm and protege of former Gov. Ann Richards) and the "Chat 'n' Chew Cafe" -or something like that. He hosted out of a local restaurant I frequented. Out of curiosity, I tried to give him a fair hearing. It was horrible. It was a litany of complaints. I've heard less whining from a two year old. I quit going there to eat.
I think the main problem with liberal talk radio (as well as most libearl ideology) is that most American people work hard and exercise alot of self discipline. So when a liberal comes on the air talking about how its the American peolple's fault or responsibility for one thing or another, it rings hollow.

"So they wind up losing their tempers, calling the callers names, and hanging up on them in a fury."

Exactly. And then the conservatives stop calling, and then stop listening.

One local liberal (soon failed) local talk show host responded to cogent conservative argunments supported by evidence with typical ripostes as "Naaaaahh... no, that's not the point," and the like.
