Space shuttle Columbia mission specialist astronaut Kalpana Chawla suits up Jan. 14 at astronaut headquarters at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla.

Shuttle flight engineer, mission specialist and former Sunnyvale resident Kalpana Chawla spent a lifetime demonstrating how to push boundaries -- taking up aerospace engineering at a time when few women did so and then moving from India to the United States in a bid to become an astronaut.

You can find the link to Deep Purple at www.deep-purple.net with regard to the STS-107 tragedy. I believe they played Space Trucking as a wake up call. Somewhat spookily earlier, fans in the newsgroup had discussed other appropriate Deep Purple songs to wake up to due to the speed at which they are played but realized the it might not go down well with some because the titles were "Fireball" and "Burn" and God-forbid if such a thing happened!! To think there was the Gremlins star Zach Galligan who was arrested last week for shoplifting a Deep Purple CD. Gremlins indeed.
