He's a sociopath more than likely, and he's probably filled with anger and hate for having been locked up in the first place. Probably doesn't even think he did anything wrong and that he's been the victim all this time. I agree with you that he will be in trouble again before too long. Inmates who are about to be released tend to get cocky and arrogant (if they aren't already). They think that even if they misbehave, nobody can do anything to them to keep from getting out. It's kind of like the same behavior that got them into trouble in the first place. That's why most of them end back up in prison again.
