"Right now, it does not make sense to us that a piece of debris could be the root cause of the loss of Columbia"
That's big news, escpecially given the current media template (NASA Knew, Crew Was Dommed, etc.).

Do they measure temp in F or C?? NASA probably can't even answer that one. Didn't they lose a Mars Orbiter due an incorrect unit conversion algorithm in one of the control systems?

Thanks for the reports.
To: 76834
what is it? C or F???
A 60 degree rise (C) would be a lot more than I thought they were talking about when I assumed they meant (F)...

Thanks for that!
I was able to open only the 56K link too.... but I was able to get in, and it is working!
Now discussing left wing drag and loosing battle to control it.
Dittamore didnt actually say it but I presume that the craft eventually turned sideways. Remember seeing a video showing this possibility.
Now discussing possibility of meteor hit or space junk

The idiots at the local High School control the NASA-TV channel and one of them left the switch in the wrong place.Again??? Two days ago they had no audio from the reporters, only the response by Shaun O'Keefe to a bunch of unknown questions. Totally embarassing...
To: Mr. K
I picked up on that one too.
Never had any answer to the question.
Delta C would be approx twice a delta F

Looking for the long shot possibility that something came off at the launch location. Searching beaches.
Next question:
Q: Was there space walk gear on board?
A: Yes, there was, and there is on all flights in case of emergency. And there were tethers that would have allowed them to go into the cargo bay, but not outside of that. Not under the wing.
To: r9etb
Did you see the tile dwg I posted? ...and the description of the landing gear operation?
I think J_R has set my "invisible flag" again...
To: snopercod
He doesn't think it is ice that hit, because of the way it disintigrated when it hit... he thinks it was the foam that hit. He has a sample piece of foam there.
To: HairOfTheDog
Not sure about eva gear.
Wondered why they couldnt come up with some sort of hi-temp caulking compound, maybe use it to laminate asbestos patches in a missing tile hole.
Not perfect fer sure but lots better than nothing
