I wonder if there were any among the founding fathers who complained about Patrick Henry, "Pat's heart is in the right place, but I wish he weren't so vitriolic. He's making the rest of us look bad to King George and the French. He is upsetting the widows and orphans of Pennsylvania with all this reckless 'Give me liberty or give me death' noise. Why did he have to say it that way anyway? It's irresponsible! He needs someone appealing to write his speeches for him, someone would soothe and calm with words such as 'If you please, King George, liberty is generally a good thing for a man to have, and I must admit, I do desire it. But I also know that you are a fine fellow and that in your deepest heart you agree with me, at least a little. If you would be so gracious, dear King George, allow me that small, modest measure of liberty that I crave. I am afraid that if I don't get it, my heart will break; I will be in a blue funk for until my weary death, pining for I have not. Thank you for your patience and time.'"
