It is time for a reconstituted United Nations wherein France has no veto, as is appropriate to its stature. The UN was formed before my birth. Can someone tell me why France was ever granted veto authority in the first place? I'm guessing it had to be granted out of pity, but didn't most of France aid and abet the Nazis during WWII?

I'd say it was mostly due to history, and the fact that France bore the brunt of the Allied losses on the Western Front in WWI.
