Prime Minister Ariel Sharon received yesterday a special report from the Demographic Section of the Ministry of Interior on the issue of Arab polygamy.

Some facts:

* 20,000 Arab Israelis have married women from outside of Israel, who are now citizens;

* Two examples of the financial burden on the state:

- one Arab is married to 6 women and has 54 children, & receives monthly Nat'l Insurance payments of 25,000 NIS [DPS Note: At the current exchange rate of 4.867 New Israeli Shekels to the dollar, that's $5136 per month; or $61, 639 per annum!]

- another is married to 5 with 35 children & receives 16,500 NIS monthly [DPS Note: That's $3390 per month or $40,682 per annum!]
