SCI]Am I watching live cam pic's of a new volcano being born? Hey folks, I check out Mount Popocapeteil (sp) volcano (Near Mexico City) most every day for the last few years. I HAVE NEVER SEEN WHAT I AM SEEING NOW. If you go to the TELMEX site you must click on the ALTZOMONI camera and page right on the cam to see a NEW FIRE AREA that was never there before. I dont know if it is a new opening a new volcano or just a forest fire. What do you guys think??

As of 1100 (1700 GMT), the 5th of February, CENAPRED has reported that in the last 24 hours the monitoring system detected a temporary increase in the level of activity. After 18 small exhalations of steam, gas and a little amount of ash, today at 0459 (local), a moderate dome-destruction explosion ejected incandescent debris on the volcano flanks around the crater to a distance estimated as 2 km. Afterwards, the volcano returned to a low level of activity. This morning the volcano appears with a small steam and gas emission toward the East. Due to the presence of the lava dome inside the crater, and the activity reported on January 22, there is a probability of explosive activity, ash emissions, and incandescent material ejections around the crater. Popocatépetl, whose name is the Aztec word for smoking mountain, towers to 5,426 m 70 km SE of México City and is North America's second-highest volcano. Frequent historical eruptions have been recorded since the beginning of the Spanish colonial era. A small eruption on 21 December 1994 ended five decades of quiescence. Since 1996 small lava domes have incrementally been constructed within the summit crater and destroyed by explosive eruptions. Intermittent small-to-moderate gas-and-ash eruptions have continued, occasionally producing ashfall in neighbouring towns and villages.
