Al Qaeda poised to hit us twice: CIA

WASHINGTON - The CIA fears that Al Qaeda is planning at least two large-scale attacks against American targets by mid-February or at the outset of war with Iraq, the Daily News has learned. The terrorist strikes - which may coincide with the end of the hajj, the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca - could include the use of a radioactive "dirty" bomb or chemical and biological weapons, the CIA has determined.
Federal terrorism officials have been warned that "Al Qaeda is organizing a 'new' type of attack that will surprise the United States."
Specific targets are not known, but U.S. officials have discovered plots against the homeland and Saudi Arabia, the warning said.
The CIA's alert said Osama Bin Laden's thugs may attempt strikes that "potentially could involve a radiological dispersal device," combining major assaults with "smaller attacks at multiple places around the world."

This does not look so good, especially, after the assassination in Northern Iraq.

I think we have reason enough to hit some terror bases, including those inside Iraq. Also wouldn't hurt to hit Hamas and Hezbollah. If we're going to have a doctrine of pre-emptive strikes we should put it in play.

This does not look so good, especially, after the assassination in Northern Iraq. Wasn't Afghan opposition leader Ahmed Shah Masood assassinated just before the September 11 attacks? I hope this is just a coincidence.

For thosewho care to remember, an important opposition figure in Afghanistan was assissanated the weekend before 9-11. If something goes down this week before Iraq is attacked, do you think the lunatic left will finally be convinced? Or, will they simply blame us for provoking Al Saddam?

Any attack by the Al-Qaeda using biological or radiological warheads must be considered an attack by the Axis of Evil by proxy. The response must be commensurate and I mean nukes.

We are in their sights whether we "go to war" in Iraq or not. Of course, the Liberals will scream it is GWB's fault if we suffer a major attack here at home after we attack them over there.
The Liberals (always) fail to remember it is we who were attacked first - many times - and we are at war whether we participate in the hostilities as a combatant or as a passive punching bag (their preference) which just doles out more blackmail money for "peace".
You can't have it both ways. It is obvious which way they have chosen for themselves and want to foist on the rest of us!

Massoud was assasinated September 9th 2001 by two fellows pretending to be journalists. The film camera they brought with them was supposedly a bomb.

Yes, el Qaeda assassinated Massoud just before the Afghan war, to eliminate him as a potential leader of the country after the war. I had the same thought as you did when this Kurd leader was murdered. The timing is suspicious and points to Saddam, al Qaeda, or both.

massoud was a fine looking man, but alas, was no angel.
however, in that part of the world we gotta go with the lesser of all evils, and he was OK. i'm afraid the assassination in kurdistan is eerily reminiscent of the days prior to 9/11.
