Well, what a coincidence! I just downloaded Solaris 9 for x86 and burned CDs yesterday. You'll want to check this out: $20 for Solaris 9 on x86.

w00t! w00t! :-)

If I hadn't just bought a brand new telescope, that'd have my undivided attention tonight! Thanks!

Ah, man, there's nothing like first light with a new scope. Have fun!

Well, after a minor downloading issue and some wrestling with the networking part of the install, I got it working. In fact, this is being posted from the Solaris 9 box.

I have a home LAN with a router that acts as a gateway. It just would not pick up DNS information from the gateway during the install process. I edited resolv.conf and checked a few other files and got it working.

It was also finicky with hardware- I replaced the Hercules graphics board with an ATI and the Linksys NIC with Intel. Got the SETI client running on it- now I am going to experiment with Samba. I am nasty sick, so this is all being done in small increments.

Thanks for the heads-up!
