Security agents in Masvingo and the Department of Information and Publicity were last week hunting for Paul Olivir, a suspected South African journalist believed to have illegally sneaked into the country through the Beitbridge border post.
Olivir is alleged to have entered the country at the end of last month without accreditation and was allegedly writing stories for foreign media organisations.
The journalist was allegedly on an assignment to cover rampant poaching in the giant Gonarezhou National Park which could affect the transfrontier project between Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Officials at Nesbit Arms Hotel in Chiredzi where the journalist was allegedly booked, confirmed security agents this week raided the hotel in search of Olivir.
A hotel official said: They were looking for him, but we are not sure why. If you want more details, speak to the owner of the hotel.
The owner, Digby Nesbit, could not be reached for comment. But sources said Olivir was wanted for allegedly contravening a section of the draconian Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
A truly heinous crime.
From the resources dedicated to catching this 'criminal' journalist, I guess it's true, then, that Mugabe is raising money through poaching.
