Hollywood activists who happily took their marching orders from Stalin...All of whom were (and are) too dimwitted to realize that under a Stalinist style regime they would stop being pampered, overpaid celebrities and become carefully controlled servants of the state.

For these people there are only two types of Republicans: stupid ones and evil ones Of course, there are plenty of FReepers who would agree with the above sentence if it were written: For these people there are only two types of Democrats: stupid ones and evil ones. And of course the reply to this post will be "But we're right!" :-)

Jane Fonda sighting an NVA A-A Gun?

For bonus points: where is she and what is she doing?
She's busy quietly reneging on grants she granstandingly made to colleges when she had money.
As for the shabby way Kazan was treated on that Oscar night, Warren Beatty was one of the very few actors/Hollywoodistas who showed class and gave him a standing O.

And just a few short years later, here is the well-known expert on politics, Mr. Nolte:
"The mills of God grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine."

Isn't it amazing? Nick Nolte became the character he played in "Down And Out In Beverly Hills."

Several ex-Trotskyites became leading conservatives and neo-conservatives yet they were generally accepted into the conservative movement without too much question.
Side story:
Dalton Trumbo, IMO, is the most interesting of those useful idiots in Hollywood. (John Steinbeck, being the most interesting case of in the literary world, since Grapes of Wraith is required reading in American schools.) Johnny Got His Gun is an American anti-war classic, but when Germany invaded Russia, suddenly, Mssr. Trumbo became a great crusader for the Good War. When Trumbo was blacklisted as a Communist (became a member in 1943), he continued to pen scripts under assumed names, and then winning an Oscar for Spartacus in 1960 using his real name.
Trumbo went on to get involved in the fledging anti-anti Communist movement by lending his talents to a JFK assassination conspiracy film "Executive Decision," associating with such questionable suspects as the anti-Semitic Liberty Lobby who were in the process of suing Clay Shaw for the murder of JFK.

As for the shabby way Kazan was treated on that Oscar night, Warren Beatty was one of the very few actors/Hollywoodistas who showed class and gave him a standing O.Elia Kazan was Warren Beatty's mentor. It was the Kazan movie "Splendor in the Grass" that really put Beatty on the map. It would have been beneath contempt for Beatty to have done otherwise, but many Hollywood Lefties would not have been generous in a moment like that. If I recall correctly, Rod Steiger ("On The Waterfront") was still ranting against Kazan at the time of Oscars.
