Wanna bet Israel has more librarians per capita than the Arab world?

This reminded me of a story from high school that I had forgotten. The librarian at my high school was of Arab decent. My brother who was married and living in another state suggested that I read "Exodus" by Leon Uris. I went to the school library to check it out. I couldn't find it and asked at the desk if it was checked out. The student at the desk went to the librarian's office and returned with the book and I checked it out. Without me asking, the student worker told me that the librarian did not keep it on the shelf but would offer it to students if asked for. She then whispered, "She's Arab". I was a Junior (1968) and I didn't even know what the book was about nor did it occur to me at the time that this was censorship. I had forgotten all about this incident until just now reading this post. If I had known then what I "know" now, I would hope that I'd have spoken up.
