I think the Sheik and "Iron Sheik"(who defeated Bob Backlund) are two different people. I can't swear to that however.

The Sheik the original one not the Iron SheiK died about 2 weeks ago in his 70s

If he did I missed it, last time I saw him was at Royal Rumble 2 yrs ago.
