The Demoncratic City Councilmembers of Omaha, NE passed a "living wage" law about 2 years ago. Five of the seven councilmembers were defeated during their re-election bid a few months later. The first thing the new City Council did was throw out the "living wage" law.

When the economy was good, local fast food restaurants in mid-New Jersey were offering starting wages of $8 per hour, without any law telling them that they had to. That was what they needed to offer to attract compitent employees. Want to raise the effective minimum wage? Free the economy and let it grow.
