February 12, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee has told her daughter to stay off the New York subways.

But Rep. Jane Harmon of California insisted that she knows of no new terror threat and is just being "an anxious mother."

It has already been on our news--several days ago--that the NYC subways was a specific target. Had I a daughter there, I would have said the same thing. I'm sure that Rep. Harmon did receive this intelligence!

P--sy! Every weekday, I ride the subway for 45 minutes to an hour to go to school. Any man who refuses to ride the subway due to ANY threat squats when he p--s and any woman who refuses to do so deserves to be walked all over. This is just my opinion.

Must be a gender thing. Then again, the subways seem to be crowded as ever at rush hour with people of both sexes. The only people I hear interviewed talking about "taking a cab" are rich yuppie ditzes who came here thinking life would be like Sex in the City or Friends.

Then again, if I were a mother, maybe I'd feel different...

Beats the crap out of taking the Palmetto Expressway or I-95.

Sometimes I think that taking the subway is safer than riding in a cab - the taxi drivers leave much to be desired.

I think you're right. I am a mother and my daughter thinks I'm crazy. I wouldn't let her go to NYC on a school trip last fall during one of the alerts. She has not let me forget there was no incident... I keep telling her to be thankful. Although these days, I'm not sure I would want to crawl into a cab either without knowing something about the person driving it!

Stay safe, New Yorkers and D.C.ites!

BTW: Clemenza's mom is VERY concerned about her son living in what is probably the number one terrorist target in the country.

Check out this thread and the images. Maybe you or at least your mom will feel better. ; ) - Be safe. Sorry, can't do anything about the cold...

Well, THIS subway-riding NATIVENEWYORKER thinks nothing of riding the trains, and still takes his kids on 'em.

I would OTOH NEVER EVER send my kids to NYU. :)

My husband is down in NYC this week and next for the Toy Fair. I've urged him to avoid the subway but he says he's not going to buckle under terrorist threats. Plus he doesn't want to pay the cab fares!

AMEN!!! (To both your thoughts on the subway and your thoughts on NYU, where you get a public school education at private school prices!).

I used top ride the subway at 4 am to my job as a yellow cab driver.

Talk about living dangerously.

I saw so many muggings, blood and corpses during the 2 years I did that I may as well have been living in a war zone.

Not to mention ducking bullets on 4 occasions.

You can drive around the traffic in Miami, its not an island.

New Yorkers are brainwashed into thinking the rest of the country are not as hip or tough as they are.

Thats true enough, but insane taxes and fees, bestial crime, and a city government that will fine you $500 if you forget to turn your cell phone off in the movies and tries to jail you if you defend yourself are not things people should subject themselves to voluntarily.
