Thoughts from Barbara Streisand (barf-o-rama)

Some Questions to Think About...

I wrote these questions in September, 2002, but never put them on my website. I think they are still relevant questions and are worth considering:

1. How many body bags does the military expect to send home to America?

2. What is the cost of the war in billions of dollars? One advisor to the president estimates the war would cost up to $200 billion, but he was quickly replaced by a more conservative successor.

3. Are there estimates for how long American troops would have to stay there? Are they remotely realistic? A lot of knowledgeable people predict a very long and expensive haul.

4. What are the costs in civilian lives and social and environmental destruction (i.e. is Saddam going to burn oil fields again)?

5. How much of this war is about oil?

6. How much of this war is a vendetta against "the man who tried to kill my dad"?

7. Why now? For 11 years (without attacking the United States) Saddam Hussein has been defying U.N. resolutions, as many countries have. Since writing these questions last September, the international community is now faced with a prime example of this situation, with North Korea defying multilateral nuclear proliferation treaties. The Bush administration’s response has been a policy of containment. Why the double standard? Could this be because North Korea doesn’t have oil?

8. If we preemptively attack Iraq, will Iraq strike Israel who will then retaliate, leading to the Arab world responding, which will set off the powder keg in the entire Middle East and will disrupt the continuity of some Arab nations Mr. Bush counts among his allies?

9. Is there really an alliance between Iraq and Al Qaeda, since one society is secular and one is fundamentalist? (I've read that bin Laden had issued a Fatwa calling Hussein an apostate who needs to be destroyed.)

10. What is the responsibility of a powerful nation to follow the rule of international law? ... We should be setting an example for the rest of the world.

11. Will Hussein give weapons of mass destruction to Al Qaeda? (I’ve read Hussein would be afraid to ... because if Al Qaeda obtained weapons of mass destruction, one of their first targets would be Iraq).

12. What will be the increased terrorist threat to the United States as a result of going to war with Iraq?

1. How many body bags does the military expect to send home to America?

THAT'S AN UNKNOWN. ONE CERTAINTY IS THAT IT WILL BE FEWER THAN IF WE WERE TO ALLOW SADDAM TO CONTINUE WITH HIS INTENTIONS AND IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY DECLARED WAR ON AMERICA.

2. What is the cost of the war in billions of dollars? One advisor to the president estimates the war would cost up to $200 billion, but he was quickly replaced by a more conservative successor.

DEFENSE IS THE FIRST FUNCTION OF GOVERNMENT, DEAR. WHATEVER YOU PAY FOR YOUR BODYGUARDS AND SECURITY SERVICES MIGHT SEEM EXCESSIVE TO 99.99% OF AMERICANS WHO HAVE LITTLE TO FEAR FROM THEIR FANS.

3. Are there estimates for how long American troops would have to stay there? Are they remotely realistic? A lot of knowledgeable people predict a very long and expensive haul.

THEY'LL BE THERE UNTIL THE JOB CAN BE CONSIDERED COMPLETED. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP DEFRAY THE COSTS WITH YOUR CONSIDERABLE WEALTH, FEEL FREE TO START SENDING THOSE CHECKS.

4. What are the costs in civilian lives and social and environmental destruction (i.e. is Saddam going to burn oil fields again)?

WE DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT ONE EITHER. YOU SEE, BARB, THERE IS NO WAR-MENU WHERE YOU CAN SELECT ONE BATTLE FROM COLUMN A AND A SIDE SKIRMISH FROM COLUMN B. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY IRAQI CIVILIANS SADDAM PLANS TO KILL, WHAT KIND OF NERVE GASES HE PLANS TO RELEASE OR HOW MANY OIL FIELDS HE PLANS TO IGNITE, ASK SEAN PENN AND YOUR OTHER HOLLYWOOD FRIENDS WHO ARE GOOD FRIENDS WITH SADDAM.

5. How much of this war is about oil?

IT'LL HAVE TO BE A GOOD PORTION IF WE WANT TO RECOUP THAT $200 BILLION PRICE TAG. HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR FLEET OF VEHICLES RUNNING AND YOUR HALF DOZEN HOMES AND VILLAS COMFORTABLE?

6. How much of this war is a vendetta against "the man who tried to kill my dad"?

IF SOMEBODY TRIED TO KILL YOUR DAD, CALL THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY. THAT IS AGAINST THE LAW AND THEY WILL CERTAINLY WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT.

7. Why now? For 11 years (without attacking the United States) Saddam Hussein has been defying U.N. resolutions, as many countries have. Since writing these
questions last September, the international community is now faced with a prime example of this situation, with North Korea defying multilateral nuclear proliferation
treaties. The Bush administration's response has been a policy of containment. Why the double standard? Could this be because North Korea doesn't have oil?

WELL, YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED THOSE QUESTIONS IN BETWEEN MOUTHFULLS IN THE LINCOLN BEDROOM WHEN YOU VISITED X42 THROUGHOUT THE DECADE OF THE 1990'S.

8. If we preemptively attack Iraq, will Iraq strike Israel who will then retaliate, leading to the Arab world responding, which will set off the powder keg in the entire
Middle East and will disrupt the continuity of some Arab nations Mr. Bush counts among his allies?

THOSE ARE SOME REAL POSSIBILITIES. ON THE OTHER HAND, WHAT KIND OF POSSIBILITIES CAN YOU IMAGINE IF WE ALLOW RADICAL ISLAM TO CONTINUE TO GROW AND DEVELOP WMD's? CAN YOU IMAGINE ANY SORT OF PROBLEMS THAT MIGHT DEVELOP FROM THAT ALREADY OCCURING CHAIN OF EVENTS?

9. Is there really an alliance between Iraq and Al Qaeda, since one society is secular and one is fundamentalist? (I've read that bin Laden had issued a Fatwa calling
Hussein an apostate who needs to be destroyed.)

YES, DEAR, THERE ARE CONNECTIONS. IN ANY EVENT, SADDAM HAS HIS OWN AGENDA THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED.

10. What is the responsibility of a powerful nation to follow the rule of international law? ... We should be setting an example for the rest of the world.

WE ALREADY DO. WE ARE THE GREATEST BEACON OF FREEDOM THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN. ASK SOME OF YOUR SERVANTS WHY THEY HAVE COME TO AMERICA. LOOK AT YOUR BANK STATEMENT AND ASK YOURSELF IF SOMEONE LIKE YOURSELF COULD BE IN THE POSITION YOUR ARE IF YOU LIVED IN BAGHDAD.

11. Will Hussein give weapons of mass destruction to Al Qaeda? (I've read Hussein would be afraid to ... because if Al Qaeda obtained weapons of mass
destruction, one of their first targets would be Iraq).

THAT ALL DEPENDS ON WHETHER OR NOT YOU BELIEVE SADDAM IS INTERESTED IN WORLD PEACE. REMEMBER THAT ALL YOU READ IS NOT TRUE; I MEAN, I'VE READ THAT YOU'VE BEEN THE WILLING SEX SLAVE TO SPACE ALIENS…

12. What will be the increased terrorist threat to the United States as a result of going to war with Iraq?

PROBABLY ON PAR WITH WHAT THE LEVEL IS RIGHT NOW. WHAT WERE YOUR DEEPEST THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS ON SEPTEMBER 10TH ?

On September 11, 2001 events took place that changed the lives of every American.

Angel's Working Overtime

We couldn't believe the hatred they had, the actions they took made the World so sad.

They thought it would break the American Pride, little did they know we hold it deep inside.

Thinking of all who died made the World so blue, but rest assured, God gave them a job to do.

They have new titles than they had with us, they are now called Angels, nothing less.

They were Angels all along given to you as a gift, now they are everywhere, helping our spirits lift.

An Angel, God is always sending, cause the human heart always needs mending.

They are running around sending Hope, Peace and Love. All of God's messages from above.

I know they will give you a little sign, telling you they are now Angel's Working Overtime.

Mrs. Stacie ©

For anyone experiencing a personal loss; this day will never be far from our thoughts and memories.

This is to honor the brave, gifted and precious lives that were lost.

Now, now.....I'm sure these are the EXACT same questions she sent to Bill and Hillary Clinton before they started bombing in Bosnia!

In fact, those very questions are answered in this article.

NOT!

Good job, Mark: you saved me the trouble.

As for the "it's all about oil" debate: that argument was stupid in 1991 and it's still stupid today -- if it had been about oil before, we would have occupied the oil fields 10 years ago. But... gee... that didn't happen, did it? And we buy virtually no oil at all from Iraq, right? Hmmmm... but I guess that facts seem to get in the way of a good diatribe, eh?
