Being that it was a gift from France, it is called an eyesore.

That's just silly. I would never have predicted that I would ever need to dispute with an American concerning the beauty of the Statue of Liberty. It is a magnificent statue. A gift from an earlier and different France. A gift given more in the spirit of their help to the US colonies in the American War of Independence, which help led to profound and permanent changes on the world scene, I'm sure you'd agree: the creation of the United States; rather than the soured spirit of the most probably merely transient differences between France and the US pertaining today. Those differences are overblown in my opinion.

Do you think that New York really would be better off missing yet another world famous landmark that almost defines its iconic sky line?
