Just a few observations today from what I saw...
The rabblement managed to disrupt most of midtown Manhattan today. Not only were all the exits to the FDR pkwy closed off, the side streets were as well. It was very difficult to get to the rally site.
Businesses suffered as well. Most small businesses depend on their Saturday customers to make their week. With all the police barracades, etc., there was a huge cost to the economy of NYC over and above just paying overtime to New York's Finest.
The other side is comprised of some very not nice people. We were called Nazi's and fascists, etc. just because we did not agree to think exactly like they did. Lots of Democratic salutes. There were over 100 incidents of violence that the NYPD had to attend to today. "Peace" march. Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure.....
The police really appreciated the FReepers being out there today. We got a Fire truck driving past us that blew his horn and yelled out the window "FREEDOM"
The police generally were very polite to us. They were definintely in a no-nonsense mood due to the masses of people, but they liked us marching with our American and Gadsden flags and our signs.
The other side is a bunch of stinkin commies and slobs. They trashed mid-town Manhattan. Literally. Flyers and discarded signs everywhere. A lot of New Yorker's are pissed at these people (mostly from out of town) that come in, disrupt the flow of traffic the way they did, and then leave the areas they were looking like a garbage dump.
Curtis Sliwa was awesome today as a speaker. I got him to sign both my posters. He will be coming to DC to our rally on the 1st.

War doesn't determine who is right. War determines who is left. (sounds OK to me)

We were called Nazis Ironic that you guys should be called 'Nazis' because of your support for overthrowing a tyrannical dictatorship that desires to destroy both the U.S. and Israel. Do these people think things through? Do they have any idea what a Nazi is? If not, they should look in the mirror.

Bless you for being there, sauropod! I'm watching the commie mainstream nightly news portray these terrorist-supporters as sweet grandmothers and concerned veterans - CBS went so far as to show an international map of the protests, complete with border of olive branch and dove and label "Peace Protests".
You made an NYPD police or fireman's job a little easier today, gave a veteran some hope. THAT matters. Thank you!

Thank you for your on-site report. From the years I've lurked at FreeRepublic, I've learned that what is reported on the alphabet news and what really happened are miles apart. Your description more coincides with what I thought probably happened. Would you have an estimate of the number of protestors and anti-protestors?

The yard signs have been popping up in my neighborhood which is traditionally democratic and very leftist. I am happy to report there are more yards without signs than with them.
It's inevitable. It has to be done. The sooner they realize that, the better off we all will be.

Do they have any idea what a Nazi is?
These people haven't got a phocking clue.....the word "Nazi" is a catchall negative connotation for whatever doesn't suit them.

How about getting some of these great speakers at FR Patriot Rallies to autograph signs and auction them off here at FreeRepublic to support FR?

Not really. When one guy insisted on giving me the Hitler salute, I yelled "Racist!" at him (because it is). That totally unnerved him. He coule not believe he was being called a racist.

Maybe an offer worth pursuing.
Another thought is that the rallies we put on cost $$$.
We don't have sugar daddies to just hand us the cash. WE have to raise it. The next rally has an operating budget of $4k or so.
We need better turnout though. We need to get the word out. 1 MArch 2003. DC. Rally. Contact your local media folks and GET THE WORD OUT!

There is plenty of good reason to bust their rallies though.
I got a reporter talking to me about my position. The media love the "balanced" stuff, so they like to have a blurb on the 'other side' if it shows up at a rally. IF WE FREEP EVERAY RALLY, WE LET READERS KNOW THAT IT"S NOT JUST LEFTISTS OUT THERE. THIS GIVES HOPE TO OUR CAUSE. This gives hope to Conservatives who might get bamboozled by the news media otherwise thinking they are alone in their thoughts.
It's why Rush Limbaugh was and is so important. before him and before FR, we had to parse between the NYT and dan rather to know what was really going on. Anything we do to give the message to fellow Conservatives Bush-supporters etc. "you are not alone" is a good message.
Now you know most Americans support Bush, but without Fox giving balance, you'd probably have CNN saying "Bush polls slipping" because he is down from 61% to 58%. lol.
Dont underestimate media bias! :-)

Can you freep the 'other sides' rallies and save $$$$???
Think about it - permits, all that stuff does cost.
But showing about at the leftist rallies with signs is cheap enough.
